Living and working at Union Carbide in the early '60's across the street from the 500 track, I remember all the jokes about how the new English cars would fly apart when they hit the wall. Much the same here. It's call the dispersion of energy.

I can attest a head on crash in a 53 ford caused close to a 100 stitches in my face when my head went thru the windshield or a great attempt to do it . I was 18 months old or so my dad driving mom riding shotgun I was "standing" in the front seat between them when we were hit . long story but I am still here to tell it .
I crashed my share of cars when younger ( some seemed in slow motion as they happened ) to say I and my passengers were lucky is a understatement , the cars not so much
as the video shows modern cars have crumple zones built into them part of why it cost so much to repair or be totaled so easy they adsorb the impact passengers not so much . the old steel painted dashes and solid steering columns are just a few of the old style vs safety features .. with that said I still love the old cars and there unique designs and looks unlike the cookie cutter cars of today . when you have to look at the name plate to tell what it is

way back i had a 59 chevy wagon ....had a 409 engine and two baby seats on board...real sleeper for the stop light drags

I never cared much for the changes made from 1958 (which was classic IMHO) to the flat finned out 1959 models.
The 59's were Chevy's version of the Ford Edsel to me and very ugly!

New cars are getting heavier and heavier because they are making the passenger compartment stronger.

Been on a fire Dept response team to wrecks since 1983 . We routinely cut folks out of wrecked vehicles with minor to no injuries , but the vehicle is totaled. (Modern late models) When I started even seemingly minor wreck frequently caused major trauma or death . While the old stuff was heavy and had character they were death traps

Me too. My wife don't like my fuzzy dice and won't ride in my truck with me when I have them up. So I never take them down. 🎲 😎
