Super Claustraphobic -
Anyone here, so Claustraphobic you can not sleep at night?
Forget wearing the BPAP machine paraphernalia. It freaks me out, just having the covers around my neck/head. Sleep has been super elusive for about 10-12 months now. Every night is a struggle. I have only been getting about 3-4 hours sleep for about 8 months now. Totally debilitating.
The only thing that saves me, is Buddy curled up, around me. (But) Sometimes that freaks me out, having him all pressed around me. Good/bad.
I dread nights/trying to sleep. I do not know where to go from here. I am at a loss.

And when you die they're going to put you in a coffin where you'll be under 6 ft. of dirt in a small box for eternity.
I don't know why I do that I guess I just can't help myself. 😉

I just wish I could sleep. It is very elusive. I am at the point, I can not handle it.

I know that. But I just like giving you a hard time. 😉
I hate that the sleep thing didn't work out for you. I wish you could find you a good doctor that's not afraid to write you a prescription for what you really need. They don't want you getting better because there's no money in it for them.
I went in for my check up at my cardiologist last Thursday. The best doctor I've ever been to. I originally went to him for my heart doing flip flops ( palpitations). He gave me some medicine, a beta blocker, back when I first went to see him but he said you're not sleeping is the real cause of your problem. He said it'll kill you. That's when he also wrote me a prescription for Ambien that I've been taking for the past year. After 6 month on the beta blocker with no more  palpitations he told me to quit taking the beta blocker and see if I still had the problem with the heart  palpitations since I'm still on the Ambien. I quit taking it and I don't have that problem any longer. It was the lack of sleep that was causing it. He wrote me another prescription last week for another 90 days of Ambien with 3 refills and said I don't need to come back to see him for another year. My EKG looked great, my blood pressure was 127/70 and my heart rate was 62 which it's been averaging for now for the past several months and I'm still overweight.
Before I went to him my family doctor was prescribing me 90 mg of Procardia, 40 mg of Acuprill and 2.5 mg of Indapamide and my blood pressure was still running high. Now I don't take any blood pressure medicine and I'm overweight and my blood pressure is normal. My family doctor is an idiot. Said me being overweight was my problem. He wouldn't write me a prescription for Ambien because he said I'm over 65 and I might fall. I told my Cardiologist what he said about me being over 65 and apt to fall and he said which would he rather you do? Break a bone from a fall or die from no sleep. He said we're not changing anything you're doing great and I don't need to see you until next year unless you have a problem in the meantime. All the other doctors I've seen want you back in their office as many times as they can get you there for the money.
Now things have been going so smooth I don't even have to take the Ambien every night except on nights where I can tell it's going to be a long one. Then I take a pill and sleep for 8 to 9 hours only getting up to take a whizz once during the night.

Looking to get some recourse through the VA. Maybe a Rotor Rooter job on my nose?
At the end of my rope.
I have asked repeatedly for a prescription of Ambien. You would think I was asking for Crack. Not apparently happening. Will see what my VA Doctor has to say.

If I take a Sleeping Aid, and die, so be it. I can not deal with this situation as it stands, currently. My only concern is my Buddy.

Do not like the MRI machines. They have two at the local hospital. The little one is too tight of an area.

I have really been trying to use the BPAP machine. No Bueno.
I have yet to try the nasal only solution. My nose is completely screwed though. I do not see it working. Need a Rotor Rooter job, via the VA.
I am hopeful for some relief. (Anything.)

Establish a rigid routine for you and the dog.
Dogs are creatures of habit who exhibit pack behavior and dominance.
Once you begin to adopt rigid behavioral the dog will follow your lead
Stop eating or drinking a few hours before bedtime (intermittent fasting and regulating sugar intake can help more than you think
And take the layers of quilts and blankets off and try sweats and see if that helps with the claustrophobics
Dyphenhydramine (benadrylj will help and a scrip for certaline to help reset your body clock and sleep schedule
Half a glass of warm water and a few Ritz crackers or cookies and a dog treats
No phone no tablet no TV no.pc....

Wear your machine while sitting in the recliner watching TV. Set the timer on the TV if you need too. Do everything you can to get used to the machine.
Sounds like you also may have an anxiety issue on top of the sleep apnea. You need to discuss this with your doctor. If meds are needed use them.
Have you followed up with the lung doctor to make sure your machine settings are working right?

Thank you Don, Warbirds, Smitty500 and others. You Guys have always been a good sounding board.
I greatly appreciate it.
I bought some liquid Dyphenydramine (50mg) at the store just a little while ago. Hopefully I can get better sleep the next couple nights. I have been doing without it for the last week to week and a half, afraid I was building up a tolerance to it.
Had to get out of bed around 1:30am, after waking up at 12:30. Unable to go back to sleep.

For the past 4+ years, Ken, I have to wake up every 2 hours to take care of an appliance that was installed in my gut when my colon was removed. There have been a couple of nights where I have slept upwards of 4 hours at a stretch, but the clean up afterward is such that the extra sleep is not worth it.
Don't know if I will ever fully adjust to it, but have become a big fan of naps when the opportunity arises.

I am sorry to hear that Don. I also seem to sleep in 2 hr. blocks. I am hopeful after giving the Dyphenydramine a week/week and a half break, thinking I was building up a tolerence will help me considerably.
I would also like to add/state that I am sorry we had cross words a couple weeks ago. It has bothered me. I am Sorry, Sir.

Took 50mg of Dyphenydramine last night after having given it a week and a half break, thinking perhaps I was building up a tolerance to it. Slept rather good. It was nice and a Godsend to do so.

Try using NeilMed Sinus Rinse followed by Sinex Extreme just before sleep. I have deviated septum on one side from broken nose as teenager and allergic to Mold & Mildew as well.
I appreciate any and all recommendations. Is that prescription stuff, or over the counter, Jim?
