Kalipornia law
After having been the victims of several thefts, a California couple set a trap. They then beat the thieves with baseball bats. Sounds good, except in California, where the couple was arrested. Also, according to the reporter, theft of less than $950 in not punishable.

I mean, if you're going to be stupid enough to do something like that, at least have a plan for plausible deniability.

Or at least some acreage and a backhoe. It's only going to get worse. The state passed a law making felonies into misdemeanors, so they could empty the overcrowded prisons and jails. You wouldn't believe what they put back out on the streets, and where they do, those counties make it impossible to have a CCW.

How is theft of less than $950 not punishable??

No surprise at all considering CA is a DEMOCRAT supermajority. When DEMOCRATs take over a city, you get the same criminal favoring ideologues. Look at Dallas and Baltimore.
DEMOCRATs favor crooks, and criminals over honest law abiding citizens and its obvious when they make it clear they only want crooks to own guns. DEMOCRATs also want to protect them in sanctuary cities,
