I do it all the time!

Although my big mouth usually gets me in trouble.

very rarely. Sometimes in USPSA, which is my game of choice you will have a target start a stage where a shoot from the hip is an option but in a game defined by accuracy/ time I would rather be certain I get my hits than shoot from the hip and risk losing 2-4 points for maybe .25-.3 of a second advantage.

Only with 1 pistol.. it has a crimson laser grip. Point and shoot.

Practice helps a lot. I used to fool with a brace of .22 single action revolvers. I got fairly decent at shooting from the hip as well as fanning them. A lot of fun, but I only did it on the farm and such, never in any competition settings. Had I got into it when I was younger I probably would have liked cowboy action shooting and quick draw contests. But I was never around such and didn't even know where to go to get started.

Used to practice shooting clay birds from the hip with a 12 gauge. When I did it a lot, I tried it at teàl during duck season, and hit a few.

    Don't do it anymore.

They say that aligning your pointer finger down the barrel, and using your next finger on the trigger helps. That's how I always tried it, because your finger has a natural point of aim.....

Of course, your mileage may vary.
