Big storms in Alabama expected today
It has been pretty windy all morning, but they say we should expect heavy rains and a chance of tornadoes with this storm. Right now they are saying it will last until 4pm. We haven't seen anything major here where I am, but I've seen pictures of damage on line from various places.
If you are in the area keep an eye out and stay safe.
As a rule if you have your A/C on in January in Alabama.....its a good thing to check the batteries in your weather radio.

It rained all morning here in Central Florida, but the sun is out now. Hopefully your storm was pass through quickly.

When I lived in Mizzippi, tornado season started on January 1 and ended on Christmas. Unless it ran a week long.
I remember at least one night when I stayed up just in case, and watched funnel clouds pass overhead like floats in the Rose Bowl Parade, illuminated by the continuous lightning. None touched down, fortunately. Not sure what I'd have done if one had; we lived in a ranch-style house on a slab. Hunker and hope, I suppose.

Based on the Weather Guessers, we were fearing the worst, but praying for the best here in East Texas last night. We had some wind, nothing damaging here at our house, and I measured 1.47 inches of rain; so prayers answered!
We did have "Go Bags" packed in case we needed to quickly seek shelter out in my room, The Boonies, where we would have hunkered down in front of the safe. It eased up here around 11:30pm, so we went to bed, but the "Go Bags" were ready just in case.

I unplugged things here just as a precaution for a bit. I lost one of my computers not long ago and all it took was the power to flip off a few times that caused it, so just as an extra safety measure I went ahead and sided with caution a bit this time.
I've GOT to get a couple battery backups for the office. I had one, but I think one of the kids took it when they moved out because I can't find it now.
According to the news a preschool was damaged in a neighboring county, but nobody was hurt in the storm around here.

Look for a "Line Interactive" UPS. I use them on all my electronics. They isolate and regulate the power to the devices as they work like an inverter. Minuteman are the brand I use. It is worth getting a good one for your computer, and I use a large one for my tv/surround system too.

I lived in my travel trailer for a couple of years while I was working in Mississippi back in 2010 - 12 and you ain't wrong about tornado season. It practically blew Yazoo City away when I was working on the new federal prison there.
We were parked at Goshen Springs Campground most of those couple of years on the Ross Barnett Reservoir just above Jackson and every couple of weeks there was violent storms that blew through. We never had any vertical rain it's was always at least 50 mph sideways. I bet they had to lubricate the bearings in that emergency siren often 'cause it was blasting at about midnight every week are two. A couple of times it was so bad we got in my truck and hid out underneath the highway bridge at the intersection of hwy 25 and 43. It's not the safest place in the world but it's better than getting blown to Oz in a travel trailer.

We fared pretty well here.....not even a blip with the power and the sun came out today (you would swear it was spring time here.) My daughter had some tree limbs in her yard and my other daughter had a small pond that flooded behind her place....but it didn't reach her house. I unplugged things and wandered around the house doing a bit of picking up....before I knew it the storm had totally passed. It was funny....I was standing there in the living room with an armload of laundry thinking "you better check the news guys and find out if its getting close"....when I turned the tv on I saw it had already passed by here.
