I believe later this yr. there will be a skeet shoot where points instead of birds are thrown at Walmart in the sporting goods dept. Just look for the new app on the govt. free phones that are passed out.

I was pokin' around exploring things in the new format and noticed the 'Points' in my profile (of which I am the proud owner of 167 aforementioned points!).

What are these for?🤔  Is this something I can redeem over on the auction side like an S&H Green stamp?😛  50 points for a new Glock?🤗  100 points for a new Ruger Precision?🤩

Has anyone else looked at the new selection of emoji thingies?  Holy cow!  There be a bunch of 'em!

    Edit;

Evidently the emoji thingies aren't functioning yet.  All I see in the above are little rectangles...

I've been wondering that myself. If you've got a lot, you know He Dog very well! If not...well....😂

I don't know what the points are for, but I'm interested to learn.

The points add up to badges. You get points for discussions you start or comments you make. If someone accepts your answer, it adds to your points. If someone likes your comment, more points. There is  more, but I'm not going to bother because this is another nonsensical feature that I am going to request be eliminated.

Mark, what do you mean by "someone accepts your answer"?

Interesting. That must be an option that only moderators have.

Promote means that an answer (or question), can be considered so good that it is "promoted" ahead of lesser posts, for which you earn more points and eventually another badge. Understand that as a moderator and administrator, my screen looks different than a forum members screen. I often forget that fact, for which I apologize.

Someone can have my points... meaningless. Annoying, childish.

But what about the big points skeet shoot down at the Wal Mart??

    You're gonna miss out!

How are the points annoying? It's a simple counter that is only seen if you view your profile.

What are you in the third grade and getting stars for the notebook?

  • Mr. Perfect

No. Are you incapable of supporting your position that they're annoying?

They remind me of a Democrat system. Wanting to know WTH everyone does.

It doesn't appear to have been annoying enough to keep you away.😏

What good are points if you can't redeem them?😒

Geez, I made 1 post and automatically got promoted to a level 3, with 17 badges. That's more than I have on my motorcycle vest. I'm moving on up!

The points/badges feature is going to lead to issues. Members will wan to "earn" points in order to receive meaningless badges. Lets face facts.  We aren't talking about earning a Ranger/Special Forces/Presidents 100/Sapper tab, or a naval aviator/USAF pilots badge, any of which take months/years of practice, study and effort. We are talking about nonsensical badges which involve members clicking mindlessly on a computer screen. There is no effort involved, therefore any such "award" has no value and no place in the forum.

This forum has many features which seem more suited to "gamers" and social types who enjoy getting a reward for little or no effort.
