There are approximately 40 Amish affiliations around the United States. These small, close-knit communities rely solely on themselves — man power and elbow grease — to coordinate and complete their various tasks.
Early one morning in March 2019, hundreds of Amish people traveled via horse-drawn carriages to Joseph Hochstetler’s farm in Knox County, Ohio. They were there to complete one mission: to move the pole barn from one side of the farm to the other, completely by hand, in the dead of winter.
Approximately 250 men gathered around all four sides of the barn and began to lift and walk it… all in one single piece. The women watched as the men maneuvered the giant structure, commenting as they twisted and straightened the barn until it was safely placed in its new position across the field nearly 200 feet away.
The entire process took less than five minutes. Amazing!

WOW, impressive. I had a small metal pole barn built ( 40x 50 with 16' foot clearance ) three Amish guys with one Menniate (sp) unloaded the truck and set and leveled the posts in one day.
Those guys know how to work.

If each man could lift and carry 100 pounds for 200 feet, 25,000 pounds. They might even be able to carry a bit more each. I call BS on the 5 minutes though.

That is not a traditional Amish barn. Its All metal construction. Totally doable by 250 people. a Real Amish barn of that size would take weeks to take apart and rebuild. And still look marvelous.

I enjoy watching the DIY show Barnwood Builders where they salvage old log cabins and traditional timberframe barns and turn them into million dollar "cabins" , houses and barns. The craftmanship in the donor material is as interesting as what Mark Bowe and his team recreate out of the repurposed timbers using the traditional joinery techniques plus modern accouterments.

when i totaled out an old barn at home that had made it almost 100 years , i saved back a piece of board used as siding on the interior grain bins..it was 1" thick and 18" wide......don't find any of that anymore.....
