Back ?
About a month ago i told my pain doctor my back was hurting a lot more than normal. I had shots in it about 4 weeks ago so the medicine should still be helping.
She set up a MRI and i got the results Thursday. S1 and L1 to L5 are all messed up. The report said they were all moderate to sever bad. L2 or L3 was sever.
I asked her my options and she told me she would make an appointment with a surgeon for me. I told her no surgery for me on my back. She told me she understood because more surgeries that fail have to do with your back and neck.
Her other option was keep getting shots and physical therapy.
I asked her to give me numbers from 1 to 10 how bad they were and she told me that they were a 6 and the bad one was a 9.
All of the pain is from arthritis. She also told me that i am having some tunnels get smaller but none of them were small enough to worry about now.
Would you go see a back surgeon or just keep on keeping on.
When i make plans on doing yardwork or things like vacuuming the house i plan on working 15 to 20 minuets and then taking a 20 or 30 minuet break. I have about 2 hours work in me a day but it has to be broken in sections. When i do more than i should the next day is a rest or down day to let the pain die down.
I am not scared of having surgery with cancer and my knees being replaced along with other things i have had over 10 surgeries so that does not bother me.
However i am scared to death of being paralyzed or blind.
If i had surgery and things went wrong and i was paralyzed i am pretty sure my days on earth would be cut dramatically shorter.
Would you see the surgeon and have surgery or just keep going as long as you can?

Seeing the surgeon is about going over possibilities and options. Let the surgeon review the images, examine you and give their opinion. Then make the best decision you can. 0 -
Yea i agree with you but i am on medicine to reduce the swelling and the pain doctor is doing everything the would so im scared of what he would say.
Im going to have to go i just want as much information as i can get so i can make my best decision.
I have been googling everything i can.
Anything except my back or neck and eyes its no problem cut me and fix it. Them 3 things scare me.0 -
Medically, in your back the lower the issue is the more of a crap shoot surgery is. My neck Laminectomy with fusion C2-C7 was a total success in preventing further neurological damage. It has proven to be a real PIA because my neck is immobile. It is strange having to learn how to see sideways when your neck does not turn. Looking up is also a joke.
If you can live with the pain, and it seems you have had more than your share, it might be wise to avoid the knife and learn what not to do that causes more pain.0 -
Yea i know pain.
Sadly laying in bed a little over a year with cancer treatment and surgeries i think caused most of my osteoarthritis and problems.
My pain doctor when i asked her about what to do told me that back surgeries have more failure rates than any other surgerys.
She said it could cut my pain medicine way down or make me take more.0
