I read in another article that 2019 was the deadliest year in Afghanistan in years. I believe there were 17 Americans killed and most were SF guys. One was a Ranger.

Here is a break down in deaths since I retired. Granted between 09-11 was the Surge.

    2006 88 Bush
    2007 111 Bush
    2008 153 Bush
    2009 310 Obama
    2010 496 Obama
    2011 412 Obama
    2012 301 Obama
    2013 120 Obama
    2014 54 Obama
    2015 22 Obama
    2016 14 Obama
    2017 17 Trump
    2018 14 Trump
    2019 17 Trump

The news skews everything and really is fake.

The withdrawal from the nuclear deal has nothing to do with these current events other than perhaps Iran is stepping up its push for hegemony as it economy suffers from US sanctions.

We killed some Iranian terrorists and Iran staged a futile assault upon our embassy, aided to a degree by the corrupt and compromised Iraqi Government.

We recognize and accept strongmen thug leaders in countries that can harm us.

We foolishly go in and depose and/or weaken strongman thugs in countries that cannot harm us directly, but create the conditions for these groups to exist and create mayhem.

Bush 43 created this problem in Afghanistan and Iraq. Obama created this problem in Syria and Libya.

There is no perfect outcome that can be put in place by an American President, and Trump is taking the heat for conditions that in small areas have worsened on his watch. The bottom line, however, is that Afghanistan, while still a hellish country in which to live, is in a better place today than it was 3 years ago, and Syria and Iraq, with the practical elimination if iswas, are both in better condition today than they were 3 years ago.

The death cult that is extreme fundamentalist islam will always be with us. The power hungry mullahs in Iran will be with us for the foreseeable future. It is a question of managing and weakening the influence of these entities, and going through the morbid calculus of balancing American lives and money vis-a-vis the lives and freedoms of non-combatants in the region.

The end goal has to be the elimination of a US military presence. The path towards that end goal is next to impossible to determine.

Precisely why I NEVER watch the news, or read anything unless intrigued by water cooler chat and look it up. Every single station has their slant on it including the one I'd perhaps watch if I did. To be fair, I cannot imagine myself trying to stay neutral on gun control issues if I was a reporter.

Like the saying goes: "Do you know how to tell when a reporter is lying? His/her lips are moving".

Don I was in Iraq in 2004 and an Iraqi asked me how I like the 51st state..............I started laughing in his face. I said if this was the 51st state in America you(The Iraqi) would be dancing in the street and crying in joy.

Then he asked me when the US was going to leave.............I told one week after the Iraqi Government proved it could govern the country and protect its people.

He had nothing to say to that. Then I told him we would have cured cancer and been to mars if we didn't have to stop and fight some ignorant country that tried to terrorize and bully other country's.

Arabs are a people who have no clue about how to be a human, all you have to do is see how they treat each other and their animals. They are the most selfish and deceitful people I have ever been around. They lie when the truth would be easier.

Maybe Iran has spent all the $150 billion that Obama gave them and thinks Trump will pay-for-peace also. I think they are in for a big surprise.
