    Looks kind of like a prairie kingsnake, but with the bigger dark markings it could be a common water snake.

    I wasn't thinking that small, but the coloration/pattern is correct for a rat snake.

    Eastern Milk Snake


    Some around here call them Hog Nose but IMHO incorrect. Milk Snakes go good with cookies! 🙂

    Juvenile rat snake. Gray rat is sorta possible west of the river, but more likely a Western or black rat, Pantherophis obsoleta, The population just along the NE edge of the state is likely intergrade with the gray rat, Pantherophis spiloides.

    It is not a kingsnake including milk snake. Not a hognose snake either which is very different from milk snakes. In this area the red milk snake not the eastern milk snake occurs.


    Ya done killed a harmless and beneficial snake. Why not learn what is in your area, how to identify the dangerous snakes (and they are few) and leave the harmless ones along? Unless you had rather feed your corn to the rodents.

    I didn't kill it neighbor was scared of it stuck in storm door

    I tried to them it was not poisonous

    I think all rat snakes are constrictors. When caught they may excrete a fowl smelling fluid!

    True, but a lot of snakes secrete musk to repel predators and other villians. Sometimes 10 year olds can pull it off with out the musk coating. Not always.
