OTF knives
Anyone have them and or have a favorite?
Bought a cheap one years ago at a gun show that promptly failed. Bought another one a few days ago for a decent price.....and like it so far.
What are your experiences and favorites?

I don't have one because here in Missouri it's illegal to carry one in your pocket.

Thant's too bad. Here in Texas OTF knives are legal. As well as a new law allowing knives longer than 5.5" to be carried openly.
Now you can carry any knife (almost) anywhere in Texas
A new state law eliminates the category of "illegal knives," effectively expanding knife owners' freedom to carry blades almost anywhere in the state.I feel for those in the occupied states.

I've had several Microtechs and they make a good repeatable knife. Pretty solid lockup. I tried a Benchmade Infidel and it was solid but just too big and I never carried it. Microtech is just small enough and just big enough.

Benchmade here. Just keep in you pants unless needed for self defense.
Like another tool, big trouble unless you keep in your pants.

I collect automatic knives, but I only have a few OTF. My favorite, by far, is the old MicroTech HALO III (excuse the poor photos taken with my phone):
This is a single action knife, which means that after firing the blade you must manually recock it by use of what I suppose could be called the charging device:
Because there is no return spring mechanism, this give the blade a VERY strong lock. MicroTech always delivers an excellent product.

It is a big knife. It comes with its own holster, which can be seen on the right of the top photo. The holster has a lot of adjustments, and it can be broken down into components to allow for neck carry. The HALO III is fast to get into action, and it has a solid lockup, which is great for an automatic fighting knife. How many knife fights have I been in? None...and I hope to never be in one.

Never cared for any of the OTF knives I saw. I do carry a Kershaw Launch auto as EDC. Very handy and USA made.

I got one a few (many) years ago at a gun show and it failed pretty quickly. Got a Ravenscrest tactical the other day at a nice price. Looked at the website and saw that they have a lifetime warranty. It is a bit heavy, but will go into a kit.
I cant really afford a Benchmade or Microtech right now.

I know balisongs have a following...........but not me. OTF or other side openers seem faster into action.

Never had one nor have they ever really appealed to me . I would like to find another of the army/ airforce issued orange handled auto knives from the 70's they gave to paratroopers to cut shroud lines

I don't care how much training someone has, ain't nobody opening a knife faster than my Microtech.
A balisong and a microtech both have to start in your pocket, given. How fast you can pull them is a wash. Once clear of your pocket, my microtech is open faster than the eye can track. It's not just zippy, it's stupid fast. You literally cannot see it extending and locking into place. The Benchmade Infidel is noticeably slower, but I bet it's still faster than a balisong.

Benchmade full auto and the badge to make it legal. Gave up the badge but kept the knife.

This is my new edc-a Buck 898+. I know it's not a otf, but I like it. I also recently purchased a Buck 110 automatic. It's too heavy to carry everyday but it's a nice knife. My next knife will be an otf.

I got a couple last year here on GB, "Lifetime" guarantee and the guy sells the heck out of them and switchblades I was not impressed with the quality and I suspect "Made in China" may have been polished off or otherwise removed.

Have a Schrade M2 from WW2.
They were carried in a pocket under the collar of the jumpsuit. An original goes for about $1K.
As far as issuing the orange M-1C knife- Hah! They were sealed in a box in the safe of the Brigade Supply Sgt! Issue them???? Oh HELL no! They are an accountable item, and I'm signed for the bloody things! NO!

Sam06 gave me one of these and it works great. I have played with it a lot for the past year and it still shoots out strongly. I keep it sharp and use it often here at my desk.

I had one of those as a youngster. My former uncle was in the Air Force and gave it to me. Until I lost it I was the coolest kid in the gang. I don't think my dad knew about that particular gift. lol
