...Sweetwater, Texas has a round-up the middle of March each year...been going on for 50-60 years...A few buddies and I went one year...contest for biggest Diamondback, the most snakes etc...the locals have all the contests sewn up, they know where the dens are with lots of snakes...
...We started going just west of Ft Worth, Texas and stopping at ranches and asking if we could hunt rattlesnakes...ALL the ranchers we ask are happy to let us hunt as long as we dont bring a gun, understandable with all the cattle on the ranches and not knowing us.
...Snakes are super easy to clean, grab 'em and cut their heads off, hang 'em up by their tail and start at the head end and just split 'em up the belly to almost the tail...then starting at the tail end, grab them with your hands around them and rake the insides out with your thumbs...the meat is all really white...cut into pieces...dip into egg & milk, coat w/flour and drop onto deep fryer....it takes a LOT of snakes to make a meal, the only meat on 'em is down their backbone... hate to say this, but fried rattlesnake reminds me of chicken when you fry 'em...
