    try stopping the norton services before trying to remove, it may be that it can't remove because it is in use. Just a guess but you gotta try something.

    It's been my experience, limited though it is, that the new program will remove the old one during the installation process. I use Trend Micro (you have to pay for it, but it works great!) and recently installed it on a machine that had Norton. As the process went on a window opened up telling me what the machine needed to do and asking if that was OK.

    Good luck. Never gonna get totally rid of it. It imbeds into EVERYTHING. But like said above, the new version SHOULD simply update, remove, and replace what is necessary. But that thing must be OLD, so how knows what will happen. Try it and see :)

    Norton Sucks, Learned that lesson 15 yeas ago. Be grateful you do not have a virus because they cant help you with viruses as well.
