Incorrect sales tax being charged to buyer?
Sold a rifle over the weekend and just received a email from the buyer stating that GB was over charging him for sales tax in his state. He has contacted GB about this but wanted me to step in as well. I have no idea if this will help. I assume they are charging both state and a local tax that he does not have to pay. Any suggestion on this. It appears he does not want to complete the purchase until this is resolved.

On a personal note, I am sooo sorry our United States Courts feel it vital to force resolutions and COSTS of sales tax upon the seller across state lines.
If American knew what actual taxes we paid to the Government's involved; Federal, State, employer and local, spelled out on their pay checks there would be open revolt next week

Well bpost, take comfort that taxes will only go up for those making $400K+. I'm probably one of the few forum members that make under that amount.

For what it's worth, Washington's sales tax is a "use" tax, the state portion being 6.5%, and the remainder levied by local government. When I worked for a small equipment company a few years back, I sold parts over-the-counter, and charged the local, Olympia rate, which was a total of about 8%. When I shipped parts, I went to the Department of Revenue's website, and looked up the rate according to the location I was shipping to. This varied up to a total tax of over 10%. That would seem to complicate the problem for GB.

Texas state sales tax is 6.25%. Cities, counties, and other public entities are allowed to pile on a cent or half-cent.
Where I am, the county gets .5% so my tax rate is, or was, 6.75%. The maximum allowable sales tax in Texas is 8.25%, and that is what Gunbroker collects, so that is what I collect.

Wise county TX total sales tax is 8.25% and the last few GB purchases showed that amount on my invoices...

Alabama is so screwy. They are charging 1% less than I was when I filed through the Alabama Revenue website. I'm in a police jurisdiction, which is the only 1% charge. There is 4% to the state and 4% to the county. I'm sure there are LOTS of kinks to work out.
