I bought a police trade-in Mini-14 several years ago and I wasn't sure it would ever come clean. It did, finally, after about six to eight hours of effort and taking it to itty, bitty, pieces. Tribute to Ruger it still runs great after a fair amount of abuse.

I've cleaned a few of those police trade-ins and they are tough. Years of caked on powder from those donuts Is a bear to clean.

Ricci ,,,,,, get a 3’ piece of 6” PVC . Put a permanent cap on one end and a removable one on the other. Construct a ‘stand’ to hold the PVC upright. Fill it I/3rd to 1/2 with kerosene so that the action and part of a barrel will be immersed. The gunk will soften, and some will fall out ,,,,,,, voila, makes it much easier.

    You’re welcome,,,,,, 😉

I learned that on from an old gunsmith friend many years ago. Ernie was a wealth of knowledge who is dearly missed.

Wouldn’t that strip off all the brown water based protective coating?
