East coast-Get ready for higher fuel prices.
US pipeline company halts operations after cyberattack
WASHINGTON (AP) — A U.S. energy company says a cyberattack forced it to temporarily halt all operations on a major pipeline that delivers roughly 45% of all fuel consumed on the East Coast. Colonia…
“Oil analyst Andy Lipow said the impact of the attack on fuel supplies and prices depends on how long the pipeline is down. An outage of one or two days would be minimal, he said, but an outage of five or six days could causes shortages and price hikes, particularly in an area stretching from central Alabama to the Washington, D.C., area.”

The timing for this sort of "cyber-attack" makes no sense. Winter is essentially over, which means demand for home heating oil is near zero, and the Summer driving season doesn't begin until Memorial day weekend- three weeks from now. If you want to launch an attack you should aim to cause maximum disruption.

Just an effort to disguise wanting folks to buy plug in vehicles

Kim Zetter confirmed it was a cyber attack that was using ransom ware. She is a cyber security guru and reporter.

Just a BS excuse to raise prices if you ask me

"An outage of one or two days would be minimal" but never miss an opportunity to raise prices anyway. 😕

That's a possibility. That, or this was a test for something bigger

Prepping for the 3.00 mark by memorial day.

Paid 3.20 in the least state of Illinois yesterday. Highest state of all neighboring states. WE ARE leaders, that's what we are.

It was ALREADY $2.89 in central Georgia LAST Thursday BEFORE this cyber attack and subsequent pipeline shutdown. I can only IMAGINE what the price will be soon. :( Going to have to get me some of that "tele-work" stuff going! I drive 90+ miles a DAY. I can NOT pay $7 per gallon. Just another kick in the pants for good ole America!

Almost 3 bucks a gallon now

Thing is, it'll take weeks for it to come back down in price after the pipeline starts back.

Ours just went to $3.25... ☹️

2.73 today

My older brother in NC said gas is maybe $5, but it doesn't matter because the nearby stations are out.

$3.25 will look cheap by July, book it. This stuff is just starting and Joe will be touting to wear a mask while in line at the gas pump.

Just one step closer to socialism! Sad days for America! Just remember, gas was cheap under Trump. Everything was going great until someone released the virus on the world. AMAZING how they can use one virus to change the entire world

Wasn't it Trump who gave us CHEAP fuel prices and record LOW unemployment! Credit where credit is due!

Gas going up, it was cheap under Trump, building materials going up, everything going up. Let's vote sleepy Joe in again if there is an america left to do so when he gets done. Oh I'm sorry I can't vote him in again because I did not vote for him the first time.

It was less than $2 a gallon. I mean 1.89 is cheap to me. Not compared to 0.79 per gallon 20 yrs ago, but WAY better than $3 plus now! Almost double what it was a year and a half ago!

I don't recall fuel being "cheap" while Trump was in charge.
I do, under 2 bucks with all the state taxes on it. Under Trump, CHEAP. Today at Shell, 3.25

If people really thought gas prices were going to stay the same go up slightly under a Biden presidency and a DEMOCRAT congress, they are void of any intelligence or the ability to comprehend basic English.
Biden and the DEMOCRATs said they were going to halt most domestic production and stop the Keystone XL pipeline. Biden and company wants to end use of fossil fuel, and tax carbon emissions (Cap and Trade).
Dems despise pipelines and say oil and gas is more safely moved by train and truck despite plenty of contrary evidence.
So get used to it: Gas going up and Jimmy Carter gas lines are back because Biden and the DEMOCRATs are in control. The cyber attack is minor compared to what the DEMOCRATs have in store for average Americans.
BTW: Dont blame me: I voted Trump: Let us not forget, under a Trump presidency we had gas independence and plenty of it.

Dems don't believe that trucking and training fuel is safer. They KNOW it makes it less reliable and costs MORE. Everything they do is purposely done to do away with fossil fuels!

Don't feel too bad. Sleepy Joe doesn't either.

From what I am hearing, this pipeline situation has been resolved. Hopefully, within a day or two, things will begin to return to normal.
HOPEFULLY. They also stated that they did NOT pay the ransom too! Sooo......either they are lying to save face, OR they really didn't pay and the hackers will wreak havoc on the pipeline again SOON!

I filled up today in central Florida and there was what seemed, plenty of gas. Regular was $2.89.
