I can get a decent price, except..

After combining a sale, promo code, and gift card, I could get $200 off a new in box lever action rifle at my sporting goods store. This would be a good deal especially considering today's market.. the only quibble is that it is chambered in .45/70. I'm not a hunter, so it would make a poor choice for target shooting and in addition to that, those rounds are pretty expensive and hard to come by. If it were regular .45 or under i'd pounce on it in a heartbeat.

So close, yet so far.. 😕

    "Cheapest" is not one of the things I look for when buying a gun. Or, a car.

    Buy the best quality that you can afford; you will never regret it.

    The quality of the firearm isn't cheap, but since everything being sold these days command prices well beyond the MSRP it isn't a great time to be a buyer on a budget. The things I could afford are all sold out and have been on backorder for ages, and none of the manufacturers I call can give me an idea of when things will be ready to ship again. My sporting goods warehouses and firearm retailers all suggest "just keep checking" which i've been doing for months now.
