    I had to wear one like that, but of a different color way back when. I was a safety patrol lieutenant when in the 6th grade of elementary school.

    Was yours orange or white? We had both in Detroit. The orange version was new and (of course) all the officers had those (and badges IIRC) and many of us lower ranks had ratty old white ones.

    Now THERE's a memory! We had those, too. A bit like a wide, white, cotton web Sam Browne belt. In which we took enormous pride, and which we diligently brightened with white "tennis shoe" polish we badgered our Moms to buy for this special use - there being no white tennis shoes owned by our family. There was a special way to roll it into a "fire hose" type roll so it would look extra cool poised atop our desk all day between morning and evening road crossings.


    Anyway, back to the Committee for Daily Changes... Coming next: You should always wear a condom, even when you're not...

    I was going to ask brookwood if he remembered rolling the belts and hanging it on our trouser belt by one of the hooks (for all to see). Sounds like you did something similar.

    Perks were being allowed to be late for first class and getting out of last class early.

    My belt was florescent orange and I wore this fancy silver and blue lieutenants badge. My older brother a couple years ahead of me wore a white belt. The orange was a brand new improvement the very year I became a patrolman. Just another memory......my captain was a GIRL!! 😲 They had COOTIES in those days!! 😁
