Murder mystery dinner in 1840's Plantation home, SUPER sketchy neighborhood and Ghetto Car show!

Ok....so, my aunt, her son, his girlfriend, my daughter and her friend got tickets to a murder mystery dinner held at Arlington House, a plantation mansion built in 1840's. This was Saturday the 17th.


The dinner was fun, people dressed up and everyone got nametags and cards where it gave you "your" history and background information. You mulled around telling people things, spreading rumors, and gathering clues....then ate....and then a MURDER happened and you all try to figure out who did it. The entire thing was fun, the house was GORGEOUS, filled with antiques and informative plaques describing how the house was built and history.


The drive in was interesting to say the LEAST....it is located in a HORRIFIC area and I cannot see how it is still standing with everything around it. The ghetto is not harsh enough by any means to describe what we saw surrounding this place. New Era Baptist church 20' from the gates of this place that made the news for it's racist signs. It currently says "All white Pastors are Racist Liars"....there have been several that were equally insane.


Ok, so we drive into this place not really aware of the horrible surroundings....we got there and had fun, but it was DARK when we left we had seen a lot that worried us and the GPS was leading us through this place toward the freeway when we realized traffic was getting heavy....VERY HEAVY!!! A few turns and we were pretty much stopped....crawling along behind cars.....looking around there were cars parked on the sidewalks, beside the roads and EVERYWHERE they could be. These were "hoopties"....jacked up Impalas, Cadillacs, SUVS, hundreds of them. Everyone had crazy paint jobs and the stereos were vibrating my car so much I had to crack my windows to save our eardrums (the air inside my Highlander was making our ears pop.) They had left just enough room on the road for two paths of cars to make it through....totally ignoring the lines on the road. I have to say I was tickled beyond belief to see all of the cars and if I didn't think yall would never have seen us again I would have made a few passes through to see it all!!!


I asked a young person that is a "car guy" what that was we saw......he said the Magic City Classic was this past weekend. Ohhhhh.......I get it now! The Magic City Classic is a football game that is notorious for being a time when "no rules" are followed and pretty much no laws are enforced in Birmingham (in certain areas anyway.)


So, again, I share with you guys one of my many adventures and I promise to plan on keeping up with the dates of the Magic City Classic a bit better from now on.

    Dinner, and event sound fun, the rest, probably not worth it IMO... Glad you had a good time, and got home safely Kasey.

    I went to one quite a few years ago.

    Wished I was the one that was murdered, but then I'm not really a people person.

    My idea of an over crowded city is about 8,000 people with more than 4 traffic lights within a 2 mile distance. I avoid them like the plague.

    I hope your cousin, his girlfriend, your daughter and her friend all understand that they will not be able to take part in either The Bachelor or The Bachelorette. Any party in an antebellum setting, particularly one involving costumes is no longer acceptable behavior.

    Probably a moot point, though, as these shows seem to be nothing but drama. It is just hard to imagine anyone in your family being involved in drama.
