This is the time of year to be EXTRA vigilant. The bears are hungry and really cranky, the moose are ready to burst, the lynx ate all the hares and there's no grass to fall back on. So competition for food is fierce. First week of May the moose will drop their calves and mama moose will be on a hair trigger while the bears come looking for something to eat. THEN things will start to calm down a little.

They found the bear and put it down, I would venture a guess that it had one or two ear tags from previous encounters with dumpsters or livestock.
Wyoming Game and Fish just last week moved a first time cow killer from up on the Greybull near Meeteetse, north to Sunlight basin and released it there.
I actually feel bad for spring bears as the wolves keep all the winterkill cleaned up so the bears both black and Grizzly are short on a normal spring food source.

Mule, I’m with ya. There’s no finer eating than springtime black bear just out of the den, it’s lean and tender. But that’s because the poor cuss was starving looking for anything to eat until the snow melts.

Sad for sure...When we lived in Kalispell...there were 2-3 killed every year...When we went to Yellowstone we couldn't believe the traffic around bear sittings and the idiots that would try and bait the bears with food...for a COOL pic... Can't fix stupid...
Prayers for he and his family...
