Sumptin' ain't right in the world and it is not political.
Tires, huge price increases are an almost monthly thing now. Shortages are going to hit the truckers hard this summer. We have had hundreds of 425/65/22.5 "float" tires used on cement trucks, dump trucks and the like back ordered for several months.
Lumber, $40 bucks a sheet for 7/16" OSB? Treated lumber is out of their minds expensive, if you can get it. $98.00 a sheet for 3/8" A/C plywood. Who can afford to build?
Gas and Diesel, price increases for months now, seeing it go up almost weekly.
Coffee Creamer Coffee mate Chocolate Creme, not available on Amazon, WOW.
Auto and truck parts, shortages of filters, consumable parts and repair parts with low inventory of what is available. Folks are waiting weeks to get their trucks back on the road making money.
Shipping costs, we were just informed that every 40' container we get will have an additional $1,500.00 surcharge added to the shipment. When you have 75 or more containers coming in over the next few months that is real money.
Prices are increasing so fast in construction the builders have riders added on material costs that kick in seven days after quotation.
Metal roofing has more than doubled in a year.
Medicine, getting subs for prescriptions not to save $$ but because the prescribed is not available.
Is this all pandemic related or is the value of the dollar falling that fast? Anybody else seeing other items skyrocket in price?

Last year the entire world essentially shut down. Not much need for tires since no one was buying cars- not much need for oil either. Industries didn't just slow down, they shut down and sent everyone home. World commerce came to a screeching halt, resulting in merchant ships being idled or in some cases scrapped because it was too expensive to maintain them. Now that the world has opened its eyes from its year long slumber and ready to get back to business, no preparations were made. This leaves everyone scrambling for available resources, which results in high prices.

Mark you may be onto something but the lumber and other building material thing has me baffled. We are indeed a world economy. I heard on the radio that China had an almost 19% GDP increase in the first quarter of 2021. The Chinese unemployment is dropping faster than a lead ball in a vacuum.

The effects of the great shut down will cause many long term issues and some permanent changes. Many people got knocked down when they were getting started and it will affect them for their entire life. Young people getting started during economic dips as a whole do not do as well through their life financially as those that get started in good times. Even though they all ride the same waves there after. Trying to start off during this mess, for most, was a simply a non starter. The banks and money handlers will make out like gods, the manufacturers will struggle and some will close. Wages will stagnate and the dollar will continue it's decline. It's going to get rough and with the welfare mentally of those in charge it will be a lot rougher than it needs to be.
We the people know how to work, produce and make money. If left alone we would have our economy rocking. But the government with the "we're here to help" approach is not going to let us do it.

US runs about 9 months behind... so look at about start of next yr. maybe before the economy will be a waste management dumpster.

I agree that with the shutdown comes backlogs but I also believe that throwing out hoards of cash is also to blame.
Everybody has money to spend, while no need to pay the rent.
Stimmie $ has totaled 3200 per person that is making under 75K, and I think that includes the same amount for kids along with extended and nicely fattened unemployment checks.
At least during the depression they handed out money with jobs, real infrastructure shovel ready aide.
And Millions of people have gotten benefits on top of maintaining their regular incomes the distribution of the give aways is overly generous.

I agree with this and the other comments about supply issues. My wifes business just got a notice of I think the 4th or 5th price increase for plastic bags since the end of January. The supplier said resin was .58 a pound in January now it is $1.08.

I work for a tire manufacturer.We cant keep up with demand.

I work part-time with an HVAC company and parts are in short supply and increasing in price. No shortage of work though. Every day off from my regular job, I am working HVAC for good money. I can make my regular weekly salary in two or three days doing HVAC installs and repair.

I don't mean to highjack this thread. I have a friend that needed a new refrigerator
and his choices were few and there is a shortage. Lowes had display models but can't
sell them. They had nothing in their storage behind the store. Friend finally found one at
a family owned small local store.

wife has a medical issue and there are three meds that are used for it.....cheap chinese and one economical American and one high priced American.........so china quits making their pills and wife starts checking the other two and talks with doctor to replace it and settle on cheaper American which works fine for her.........the high dollar American drug would have cost her $14,000.00 a month. list price and about half that on our drug plan.........yeah i got that right...insane....

I guess I have to replace my Cedar fence. Its around 20 years old and all the 4 x 4 fence posts have rotted right at ground level. I close my fence gate and 200 feet of fence just rattles. I thought Cedar would last longer but I guess that's not the case. When I bought it the boards were a bit thicker and wider then everything else on the market. I paid $1.70 a board and the whole fence cost me about $900 to build. Now it's 2021 and to replace that same fence with lesser grade materials would cost me $3500. Ouch !!!!!!!!!!!!

Hard to figure, try to sell some timber, or logs, no price at all compared to finished product. Talked to sawmill, said he cant hire anyone, that wants to work.

We just got notified that each 40 foot container we get shipped to us will have a $1,500 surcharge added to the shipment. We have about 70 containers coming in over the next 3-4 months. Shipments are running three to six weeks later right now and expected to get worse.

My daughter has an employment business and she says it is the worst she has seen. There are plenty of job openings, but it is impossible to find workers willing to fill the openings when they are getting paid lumps of Biden-bucks to do nothing.

OSB 4' X 8' X 7/16" went to $53 a sheet here on Friday. This is crazy, and still people building with materials cost of 30% more to build a house.
