Yup, I have a '55 Second-Series shortbed Chevy. The interior is all metal -- dash, doors, window trim, etc. -- plus a vinyl seat. No safety equipment in those trucks!

My post graduate degree so to speak in driving a straight drive was in a 1966 f100 truck 🌞. 352 big block with bench seats and 3 on the tree . Learning to hold it on a hill at a stoplights , without burning the clutch was the final exam , before Daddy would turn me loose on my own .

back when a truck was a truck no dash padding ,seatbelts air bags , custom seats and interior . .. fancy paint and wheels .
all that sissy stuff 😁
or hit something at 60 mph you may not make it but the truck would brush it off and keep going , now the driver will do fine with a few bumps and scrapes however the truck not so much 20k in damages if your lucky

true but with the four speed shifter you could slide your hand right off the shifter onto her knee or other places

That ole truck appears to have some very good safety equipment. A roll bar!

Headlight dimmer switch was a button on the floorboard. Gas tank behind the seat. Vent windows you could turn out to catch more air. Gutter rails around the side windows to channel water away.

Those are lap belts only so nothing separated that pair other than clothing.
I remember those trucks, had cardboard as part of the headliner.

Ya'll remember the old Chevy's that took a clowns foot to start?
Push in the clutch with left foot, right heel on brakes, middle of right foot on gas and right big toe on the starter pedal.
A challenge to say the least.
Bench seats gave way to bucket seats/ birth control seats.

When I was very young my Grandfather had an old truck with a floor starter. It was in a large field behind our house and as I remember it I guess I had watched my Grandfather and knew how to start it. I was too small to reach the pedals sitting in the seat so I climbed in and shifted around till my feet were pointing up and I could push the starter with my hands. The truck must have been in first gear cause it started up and took off. Someone, and I don't remember who, managed to catch the truck and stop it before it got to the big ditch at the rear of the property which is where it was headed.

My Rover has a big start button on the firewall and it works with/without the key. If I need to move it around the garage or driveway I just put it in gear and hit the button. Away we go, on the starter motor.
