scope bases

Does anyone make scope bases or adapters that use the barrel dovetail normally used to attach metallic sights ? I am talking about a small platform that could be used to attach flat-bottom Weaver/Unertl or other mounts for the front scope ring. The receiver could then be used to mount the rear scope ring.

This could avoid having to drill & tap the barrel.

Thanks for any suggestions !

  I've seen some machine shop specials like that, but the only commercial made mounts I can think of to fit dovetails, is from Malcolm scopes for external adjustment scopes.

  Not sure if this would address your problem or not. Weaver makes a base that slides onto the common receiver dovetails seen on many rimfire rifles.
