Suspicious or am I paranoid (part 2)
Bringing this back. I pasted the GB response message in my last thread and did not remove the new email the seller wanted me to Paypal him. My bad and GB forum slapped me for it and closed that thread. Posting an updated status. I am fully confident this was a scam at this point.
Pasting my original thread here with an update.
I somewhat hastily bit on a buy it now option for a new ZEV OZ9 for $2100.00 I did this around 9:00AM this morning.
Once I committed, I noticed the seller only has one feedback. That feedback is from an item sold 3/30 (yesterday). The user who left the feedback only had 2 feedbacks himself... and that user is already listed as "No longer a registered user of gunbroker"
The selller wants pay pay or money order Definitely would not have bid had I caught that earlier. However, I will do that if I can confirm the guy is legit.
Also, the seller's business is listed as an "Oil Corporation"
Googled they guy and his business info is in Kansas and somewhat easy to find. The auction says Austin.
The phone number rings with no answer and a voicemail that is not setup.
His email address seems odd.. xxx_xxxx@mail.com (leaving the username blank for now. I sent an email stating I want to speak with him prior to pay pal, left my number in the email.
I have also sent similar messages via the gunbroker messaging.
Question: Something seems off IMO. Not sure if this is a scam?? Any advice or suggestions?
I'm somewhat new to GB as a buyer. i usually pay CC as soon as I win or buy now.
Thnx
UPDATE: Seller finally replied to my email and text sometime in the middle of the night (makes me think he is in Asia). At first he did not know who I was and wanted me to text him at yet a new number. I requested that we facetime or video chat and go over the the gun and ease my nerves. No reply. The GB message back to me requested I paypal to a new email address and confirm with a new phone number. And to use friends and family. I then got a text at 4AM from the seller insisting that he is who he says he is and called me sorts of obscenities. Very odd for a supposed oil executive from Austin. I blocked him and left an F rating with a warning to any other potential bidders/buyers.
I'm skeptical of posting the user ID.. Don't want to get banned or slapped again from this forum.
Just giving my experience out there to warn bidders to stay vigilant.
I don't sell much online, but in situations where I was a first time seller with no rating, I went above and beyond to ensure the buyer I was not scamming. I usually only buy with a CC and pay in full at the time of sale... if this scammer wants to give me a bad review then so be it.
Thnx

Given the circumstances, you did the right thing.
Its a jungle out there.

Good lesson is read the full auction prior to bidding.

FWIW......It sounds to me that you did the right thing and have learned the value of looking over auctions of interest. I've never had an issue using Paypal (so far) for other things, but will never consider using it for a firearm purchase.

Thanks for the feedback. I got caught up in the moment and bid a bit too hastily. Lesson learned.
