SLAM FIRE
Here is an Ithaca model 37 police. An older slam fire gun, a good man can empty the magazine in a quarter of a second. Pure poison. Worse than an epidemic. Ain't even got to aim good, just start to pumping in the general direction.

have several of those Ricci. never had the need for slam fire while squirrel hunting but the option was always there. very neat old guns.

I may have found something to spend some of my stimulus money on.......I like that 37 a lot 😊. I own 7 older Ithaca 37's in various forms and that one would fit right in an empty slot. Already have a price cap in mind so I'll just sit back for 8 days and watch before jumping.

All my old Winchester model 12's and model 1897 will slam fire.
The German's were using mustard gas on our beloved Dough Boys but yet had the gall to file a protest against the US for using the "trench sweepers" in the trenches during the big war. The US told them to STUFF it!

Per the book, Ithaca Featherlight Repeaters by Walter Claude Snyder, your shotgun was made in 1970. The "slam-fire" trigger was used in the 37 until "around 1975" and even after by request of law enforcement. A friend has a later non slam-fire gun. In that gun, with the trigger held back, the hammer follows the bolt foward and does not fire the freshly chambered shell. That's the standard trigger system for the post-1975 guns. That seems to me a poor system. You're standing there watching the pheasant flying away, trying to fire a second shell with an un-cocked gun! Ithaca did, again at the request of law enforcement, make guns with trigger interrupters that functioned like the Remington 870 and others.

I bid on a police model 37 a couple of weeks ago. They are going to ridiculous prices so I wasn't even close. I've owned several 37's and have two right now, my favorite pump gun. I never seen the need to slam fire one other than to just say you did it.

My Ithaca's range in age from 1949--1961, I've slam fired them all to check for function but I've never seen a time when a slam fire was needed. I just like pumps, always have, with the Winchester Model 12 & Remington Wingmaster 870's and Ithaca's a man can't go wrong.

It's a joke Sammy. No Sam this is another gun from the same source. I just used the same auction with some changes to describe the condition and new pictures of the different gun.

For a PD gun it is wearing some fine looking wood, it should do very good.......👍️
