What country is this? My wife has always wanted to see the Northern Lights. We were thinking of taking a vacation to Iceland to try to see them. Maybe someday.

Fabulous pictures. On occasion we can see them but nothing like that. Be worth the trip.

I have wanted to see them for many years , sadly I will be limited to the TV or internet , it has to be a humbling and wonderful experience in person to witness

Was in Fairbanks in 1971. One Feb night, about 40 miles North of Fairbanks, the sky lit up from one horizon to the other- left to right, front to back. Had seen the aurora several times, but never like that. Damn near got frostbite standing out there and marveling.

Driving up to Red Lake, Canada a few years back we pulled off to the side of there road to watch the display. Simply unbelievable. Not too far North of International Falls!

I lived a year in Alaska back in ancient times, 1968 to be exact. I never saw a dinosaur but a couple of times I did see tracks, complete with the tail track right in the middle! 😁

I often saw the "Northern Lights" but I never saw a display that bright, great pics! Thank you!

Living here in SC, the Northern Lights are out but SC has its own beauty. When I was young I loved all the far north snow sports but that snow isn't all that attractive at 74!! πŸ˜‹

Was that over Hatchers Pass or another spot in the Talkeetnas?

I seen them from several spots in Alaska and northern Russia, every show is always amazing.

Hey, Nanuq, can you see Russia from your place?

    Sure! If I’m high enough.

Here's how close Russia is to Alaska. About 10 miles.

Used to see them as a boy in Iowa on occasion but have lived in Idaho for over 30 years and yet to see them. Less light

pollution and farther north, would think would help.

A friend of mine snapped this shot night before last here in Leelanau County Michigan. I have seen the lights quite a bit brighter over the years but they are always humbling to me.

Nanuq, I remember the good old days being up at Arctic Man sitting high up on the Hoodoo mountains on snowmachines basking in the glory of God's light show for hours. Until you are actually under them as they glow, shimmer, change color and seem to reach down to touch you nothing can describe them.

bpost yeah and when they're really active and curling all over the sky changing colors it raises the hairs on your arms. Sometimes you swear you can hear them sizzling.

"Like a snake falling out of a tree" I heard them described once.

At one time, they would have been thought of as gods in the sky. Or UFOs.

(Note...not everything we can't explain at the time are alien spacecraft.)

Native eskimos thought if you went outside they’d grab you and throw you across the sky like a ball. Kids run inside!!

If you have never seen the Aurora, here is a time lapse video- about 2 1/2 minutes

I saw a video on youtube of a SR-71 pilot telling about some of the cool things he had seen and one of them was flying though the aurora borealis.

I used to fly to the North Slope every week and we used to swear we could look down thru the aurora as we went over. Really, it was reflecting off the ice beneath us.

Of course we were at FL350 not FL850...
