Got a nice little deer rifle coming up.
A Remington model 7 with 18" barrel chambered in .243 Win. with a pretty decent looking walnut stock and a Leupold 3x9 VXII in Leupold base and rings.

is .243 enough for little deer

.243 is enough for any sized deerβΊοΈ

It's probably overkill for really tiny deer. For those a .270 would be a better choice.

Kinda like shooting cottonwood leaves vs. maple leaves???
3 -
It might be o.k. for jackalope , well maybe an anemic runt of the litter one. Bob

got to shoot them in the eye with that small of a caliber

Toad,.............................."Et Tu Brutus?"
I remember when I used to like you. π€
Oh,................................and anything over .22LR, is overkill for floating leaves. Unless you are rich and enjoy showing off. π

Sorry Ken, sometimes that second cup of coffee gets too me....π

I am going to go out and abuse that .22mag I bought from you. (Sorry, I can not remember if it is the bolt action tube fed, or the semi auto magazine fed.)
I can hit a flying Crow at 300 yards with one of those puppies. π€π

aim for the eye

Leaves don't have eyes. π
To hit a Flying Crow at 300 yards in the eye in flight, I would have to bust out my NEF Bull barrel .17HMR with the nice scope, and bipod. Challenging, but doable. π

if you just wound those maple leaves and make em cry, you may get some syrup for your pancakes...........

Longer shots, mandate busting out the Savage 110 in .270 with the nice scope, and bipod.
You know, shots on leaves beyond 75-100 yards. π

The .243 is like a .410 the bullets are like poison and they will kill anything that walks or crawls.
I agree the 270 would be my goto for really tiny deer.

Yeah, like that .44mag Rossi could make 75-100 yard leaf shots. π¬
.410's at close range (especially the PDX round) are lethal. Just ask Ricci.

Well lookey there, Mr. Disagree is out early this morning.....here's another chance for you to hit your "hide behind the keyboard" button....

I think that would be overkill on a leaf. For leaf shooting you need a pot metal plinkerπ€£

It was me, this time Toad. I could not resist, given how many I have received lately. If I hit you with a "disagree," I will own up to it.
I am still okay with shooting a mouse off a certain someones head at 75-100 yards, with my Heritage Rough Rider. It might take me a couple ranging shots, but that should all work out. (For me.) π

I figure it might be you Ken, but I couldn't pass up a chance to call someone out on it....

I figured I would partake of those Cowards little game of "disagree" for no reason, other than doing it.
Whenever I attempt to call the Cowards out on it, all I get are more "disagree's". π€

I disagree, with your disagree.
Now What?
3 -
Well I disagree!! At least with the original premise of if a 243 is enough gun for deer. If using a Barnes 85 grain bullet, that bullet will kill deer graveyard dead 100% of the time if that bullet is well placed.
Now if you are not a good enough shot to place your 243 bullet where it counts, that is a whole different story!! π
