That has a barrel extension threaded onto the original barrel, and with no muzzle pics, I wonder if it's a smooth bore.

Fellow brought one of the short barreled versions over one day. Took it to the blasting zone.
Hung a target about like a Redfield sign in version. He stepped about 20 feet away and proceeded to fire.
Terrible racket but no hole in the paper. Stepped a bit closer, maybe 10 feet, and sure enough he hit the target. 5 shots looked like 00 buckshot at about 30 yards Would have been a real man stopper to say the least as they were keyholed.
Hate to say it but they were made in mine and 84's neck of the woods.
I'd wager the one in the OP would be a "blast" to shoot.

I took over a gun shop back in the 1990,s and the owner had a couple of this things in stock. Basically an N frame S&W with a short barrel and .410 chamber. Bad idea then and now. They were much better built than the stupid Judge but still a terrible idea for a defensive firearm.

People bad mouth the Judge/Public Defender all the time. My next door neighbor/Gun Buddy bought one. Invited me over to shoot it with PDX rounds. (3 discs, 3 balls.) I was pretty impressed. At bedroom door distances, you definately do not want to get hit with that mess.
My shots held a pretty respectable center of mass pattern. (Again) You def. Do not want to get hit with that mess.
I went over with the expectation of not liking it, based on what I had heard. I changed my opinion after several cylinders full of shooting it, and seeing the results. My 2 cents.

Thousands of better choices for a defensive handgun. The tired old argument: You don't wanna get hit with one of these. You don't want to get hit with a softball across a room as hard as I can throw one either but if you have a 10" chiefs knife trying to carve me up, a softball would not be my choice to stop you if I had my Glock 21. No offense but those Judges just plain suck as anything other than, well I started to type toys but guns aren't really toys. And those "Magic" .410 rounds are never going to work as well as a good well placed 9mm or .45 round. We tested the damn things and the short barreled ones don't stabilize .45 Colt bullets very well and spread buckshot or birdshot allover the place with big holes in the patterns. If someone wants one by all means get one, hell get two or three, but they still suck.

They would make great out the auto window guns to repell carjackers and the such.

The Judge and Governor are what I call a gimmick gun. Not really good at anything. I have shot several and was never really impressed. One friend had one and said it would be great on snakes. I told him so is a shovel. I guess as an aniti-carjacking gun or something to use at very close quarters it wouldn't be that bad but there are better choices.
Bullet placement and penetration are the key factors in stopping any kind of animal.
I have seen those "Thunder's" before and was not impressed with the workmanship. I guess someone like them though. That is why there are blonds and red heads😄
