I jumped through the same hoops.

I went through 3 company's with my Dad and they all sucked. The thing is its expensive too. The people who do the care don't get paid jack.

While my care at the VA was great they seem to have the same issue with contracted Home Health, don't show up cancel at last minute. I told them not to bother any further I'm getting by fine without them.

You would think with all the healthcare money floating around someone could do it right for a profit

Well I am still learning the hoops. Yes the caretakers get paid very little. I just got off the phone with locator that told me Mom qualifies for VA assistance as a spouse. Dad was a WWII Vet. If they chip in well it is full steam ahead with the hours. Private pay. I don't care if the monies are used up, I care she is being taken care of.

That be a fact. The first company we had paid them, help, 11 bucks an hour, 24 hour care they got 8 bucks for providing, so 20 an hour.. One didn't show up, other went home. Lasted 3 days. Now have two ex nurses that stay 24 hours and they are doing great. $2500 a week, glad FIL has some money, he can do that for a year if he last that long.

We are very fortunate! A nice woman we know does pet sitting & house cleaning, etc. But she did spend years taking care of her own mother. Anyway, we hired her at $20 cash too clean & help out. Now, she stops in morning til noon M to F and when ever else she can or is needed. She cleans, cooks, shops, cares for my mother (95) & aunt (99) & cat (17). The best part is that she truely cares and is considered part of the family.

My wife was in Bon Secours Home Hospice care for 2 years. 3 times a week a health aide would come in, 1-2 a week an RN. Frankly, they were angels, saved MY life/ sanity, and were as reliable as a clock. However much they got paid, it was not enough.
