None of my business but if that is a nice 52 then maybe instead of drilling holes in it may I suggest you visit a gun shop and look at some of the newer handguns being made to accept a red dot??

Please don't drill and tap your 52. Do as Ricci mentioned, sell it, buy another one ready for a reflex sight, and put a wad of cash in your pocket..

the only way to properly install an optical sight on a m-52 is a with a grip mount, this replaces the left grip pannel and doesn't alter the pistol.

Leopold makes (made) a grip panel such as mentioned above -

Once you go optical, you will never look back.

The learning curve is fast, your shooting will improve and going so long without one will make you wonder why you did.

I had 20/20 PLUS vision until the age of 57 where I needed 1.25 "cheater" glasses to read easier. I started to buy pistol optics that did not require altering the original configuration of the gun except removing grip panels or the rear sights.

By golly all my shooting got a lot easier and a big time gain in accuracy was seen!

Sorry about the delay in my response...(I'm still learning about forums - I've never posted on one before).

My 52-2 is in perfect condition with the original box. It makes my stomach hurt every time I think about trying to sell it.....but at the same time I realize that I haven't fired it in 3 years and it is a shooters gun.

[ BKG: I'm 65 /disabled and at times I almost feel guilty for having a weapon like It and not running rounds through it. I can't go to stores w/o having a panic attack, I never leave my house].

I guess the other issue is that I don't know anything about the new pistols, only that my hand loves the 1911 style and that I do not like plastic guns......

One way to go might be with a fiber optic front sight. I have 1.75 readers in my right eye, and the fiber optic sights make it so I can still use open sights. These Rock Island guns are very nice for the money:

Thank y'all for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it.

I think Ricci.Wright & toad67 have the most reasonable opinions....Mike Whiskey, dfletcher & dpost, thank y'all for telling me about an option that I didn't know about....

Thank y'all and please be safe...
