That's cool!! I wonder how many Japanese/Americans sent him a dime, you know, when they were released from the internment centers.

I think it would have been worth more than a dime to get out of one of those places.............

I remember back in the mid 70's tagging along with my mom when she went on a March of Dimes collection tour/funraiser, for babies' health, I believe.

I remember back in grade school they took dimes for some charity , they had cardboard folders in each class room to put dimes in

when I read this post that came to mind , I thought the collection was for the march of dimes , but doing some searching it was for the red cross 😚

I don't think it was just dimes, but in MA "The Jimmy Fund" was pretty well known - Ted Williams was a main sponsor along with the Red Sox. I think they did dimes in cardboard folders though, nit sure but it sounds very familiar.

Back then a dime was worth its weight in silver! You could actually buy a lot of stuff with just a dime.

As a kid we did the march of dimes walks each year in SoCal you walked x number of miles up 20 iirc and got "sponsors" to pledge a dime donation for each mile we walked. I remember seeing a platoon? maybe just a couple of squads, of Marines in boots and utilities, (maybe camo?) doing the 20 miles in just over 2 hours, us kids took most of the day on Saturday and recouped on Sunday....

Internment is OK if a DEMOCRAT does it.
