Yellen had signaled the likely US shift during her January Senate confirmation hearing, saying she supported efforts to ensure corporations pay their "fair share" and to remove incentives for companies to offshore activities.
European officials said the US shift was an important breakthrough.
"This is a giant step forward on our path towards an agreement among the participating states by the summer," German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz said in a statement following virtual talks with his G20 counterparts.
French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire said a deal should be reached by summer, calling for negotiations to be "concluded without delay.

And think twice if you believe they won't just pass the tax in the price of the service or product to the working class! It's all a con game from the start. You always tax the consumer in the end or give less service or a cheaper product. The devil is always in the details.

The Washington Post reported Monday that the effort could be one of Yellen's biggest accomplishments if an agreement is reached and could be critical to any push from Biden to raise taxes to offset the cost of future spending proposals.
In response to a written question following the hearing, Yellen said that "the Biden-Harris Administration will pursue a comprehensive multinational agreement to update global tax rules in ways that establish effective minimum taxation rules, prevent global profit-shifting, and ensure that corporations pay their fair share."
