Good life experience. He's fortunate to have a safety net (helpful parents).

He has been handling things himself.....I'm just checking in and telling him what I see on the computer.

Looking at the road conditions in Marshall traffic has stopped all up and down the road....

Look at the craziness heโ€™s headed for in Shreveport though!!!

Since he has a room, he made a good call by staying put- sheltering place. Traffic is at a standstill, so there's nothing to be gained; and everything to risk by taking to the road. With sufficient cold beer, Funyuns can be considered viable survival rations; if not a staple food.

Long story but I was stranded in Houston once (I lived in Indiana) with 60 cents in my pocket when I was about his age.

I could have used some Funyuns.

He sent a message that he was about to fight some truckers for a chicken sandwich.....I replied that he needed to just gracefully hand over the chicken and thank them for not beating him to a pulp. He replied that he was joking and that the truck stop said for everyone to come back in an hour for hot food. So he's having a good time it seems.

He said he has pulled several people out that were stuck. I didn't know how because he doesn't have chains or ropes that I knew of. He said he was using his hands, a mop head and making people go back and forth with their cars while he pushes. He's going to get run over by some nut that is stuck if he isn't careful. I'm just glad he's answering when I check in....which is NOT the norm for him.

I think back on the crap I did when I was his age and knowing that there were no cell phones, nobody knew where I was most of the time and I had no survival skills at all other than what makes a good sled that isn't made to be a sled....its a miracle I'm alive.

Thought you meant Marshall MN for a second. Then I realized snow don't stop them in Marshall MN.

I20 is a nightmare between DFW and Shreveport even on a good day!!!!! One thing that causes backups when an accident happens or there is road work closing off a lane is the long distance between off-ramps.

I am about 80 miles Northeast of Marshall, and thanking my lucky stars I'm not on ANY highway right now. Between me and three neighbors, we finally got our county road cleaned off enough to be passable this afternoon. I had 18 inches of snow on my driveway. Supposed to rain tomorrow, so the snow will be outa here. Tell your son not to get in a huge hurry to get home, consider it an "adventure"!

I think the plan is to stay until checkout so there will be a bit of traffic on the road ahead of him heading this direction. If he can get past Shreveport it will all be downhill from there from what I see. I still cannot believe what a nightmare this has all been. You guys are all in my prayers out there. Its been a long ordeal for all of yall.

hoping for the best , and it was a hard lesson to learn

at least he was sheltered not stuck in his truck some where

we were all young and too brave for our own good at one time

tell him just tap your heels together three times and repeat there is no place like home ... ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'd tell him to fill up the gas tank again. Plus get 2 plastic 5 gal fuel cans and fill those up as well.

We sure have been under the gun here. I am lucky, I have a generator, well and heat. A neighbor came yesterday to clear our driveway of 18" of snow. I have to have cataract surgery in the morning, so really need to get out and about. Prayer sent for your son's safe travels.

Today looks like it might be sunny for everyone out that way. The roads are clear and the internet isn't showing any delays or red areas on I20.....so, hopefully everyone out there can catch a break and things can get back to normal. I sure hope you can get to your surgery grdad45.

The disaster in Texas only lasted for a few days.............power and water restored (still under a boil advisory).........but it was about 8 F here on Mon and Tues.................now (Sun) it is 70 F and all the snow and ice are gone. Plumbers are having a field day with burst pipes.

My youngest son is in process of moving back to St. Louis from Arlington. Company has had him there two weeks in corporate housing. He has been concerned about his plumbing and he had to be there today for the moving company. Called last night and his house is thankfully just fine. He is supposed to close on the sale March 8th.
