There should be a date stamp on the rear 'bridge' (between the 2 screws in the side). you may have to remove the stock.

i removed the stock and there are no numbers anywhere. I see 677 on the underside of the bolt and 677on the receiver where the bolt slides in/out.

Could it be that its old enough that it doesn't have one? it doesn't look ground off or altered in any way.

It does have a stamp on the front bridge A1317. Is that an Ackley stamp for the custom barrel?

Should be right there between the screw holes, or lower under the wood line, like Mike said.

thanks gentlemen but there is nothing on the rear bridge. I read that Zastava made guns from 1945 on. Also understand that pre 1950 serial numbers weren't needed on imports. So I thought this is a 1945 to 1950 gun. The killer to that theory is Interarms was not in business until 1953.

the a1317 should be the ser. # and the 677 is probably june 1977

The late Frank de Haas book, on bolt action rifles. Has a section on the Interarms Mark X's. They starting selling them in 69, with the Zastava markings. In the 90's, they were selling them just marked Yugoslavia.

Barreled actions were also sold to gunsmiths and shade tree hobbyiests. That's how your rifle came into being. Nice looking rifle, but I don't see it being a easy one to sell. You really are going to have to price it right to move it. Thumb hole stock, in .257 Roberts improved. Not everybody's cup of tea.

Demand creates value not rarity. Demand on the GB auction, is when 2 or more guys are bidding against each other. Driving the price up. The Demand for a home built, thumb hole stock, Zastava BA, in 257 Improved. Is underwhelming, IMHO unless it was really priced right.

Here is a quick explanation on how to determine twist rate in a barrel. I included a video...

Barrel Twist Rate — How to Determine the True Twist Rate « Daily Bulletin
Erik Dahlberg illustration courtesy FireArmsID.com. Sometimes you'll get a barrel that doesn't stabilize bullets the way you'd anticipate, based on the stated (or presumed) twist rate. A barrel might have 1:10 stamped on the side but it is, in truth, a 1:10.5 twist or even a 1:9.5.
