Paraphrasing here for sure, but, "if the NCO tells you it is raining up, open your umbrella and stand in it!" I was rolling on the floor laughing at that one. Such was the education of new officers when finally out in the real world. NEVER question the NCO! Rocky Raab I loved that line in your book. My wet behind the ears hubbie learned that lesson as a 1st LT when we were at FLW. The DI's and 1st SGT made sure he understood that lesson not soon after we arrived.

Failed to mention that I finished "Mike Five Eight" in two days instead of the one day "Baggy Zero Four" read. To be honest it wasn't because it was a slower read, its a longer book, lol.

You are all very kind. Thanks. "Baggy" is a bit more "fictional" and more stylized because it was written for a fiction contest. Everything in it happened, but one or two events involved somebody else. The ending and the hiatus back home is contrived. In truth, I went straight from LZ English (the real place name) to Ban Me Thuot. All character names are changed, and one or two were transported from other places and times. "Mike" is almost a diary of actual events except that many were left out to keep the book within limits for length. I did every bit of that.
