i certainly remember using the light socket for auxiliary circuits in many houses in WVa. and if the fuse blew, put a penny in it.

If the chimney draws good I'd bet it will work pretty good.

    That's not a fishbowl, it's a humidifier.

I grew up in an old house that only had one electrical outlet in each room. Remember Ralphy's Christmas tree!? 😂

maybe just me but look how he is dressed . 100% better than most walmart , well for that matter most people go out in public now . i agree he sure he looks a bit unhappy but at that time photos were rarely taken so maybe some bad news or event may explain his suit

the got to "make due with what you have" is more than just a suggestion its a way of life still today

like varian stated . when I was growing up I remember dad putting a penny in the fuse box many a time when a fuse would blow until a new one ( if ever ) was bought to replace it .but we a TV a single light in the center of each room and moms iron used several times a week like most back then every thing was ironed underwear ,socks ,shirts, paints, dresses . which I am sure blew the fuse with the TV and lights on same time . I seem to recall the fuse box had two fuses in it

When I was a kid, it was fairly typical to have a single bulb holder with pull chain in the middle of each room's ceiling. Often with an adapter and a couple of dinky cords plugged into that. Wires were copper (often bare) attached to porcelain insulators nailed to the walls and ceiling. Almost all chimneys were brick with hand mixed mortar and sometimes one could see through the cracks.

No wonder so many houses went up in flames.

As a child the, the fuse box had four Buss screw in fuses ... there was always a few pennies in the btm. of the box.

Grandma's fuse box used cartridge fuses.

Some were made of wood ! 😉😄

    Yep, not a happy camper.

2:20 on the clock and appears dark through the window.

    The woman may have PMS.

No tea kettle on the stove either.

Yep, some of the stuff you guys mention. How did we even survive as compared to todays safety regulations.

He might be one of them Guys that has had some bad luck,

    Similar to Rodney Dangerfield's luck:

He said his luck is so bad, he bought a cemetery so as to sell burial plots and people quit dying.
