The same with my grandmothers. If applying the medicine doesn't hurt more than the initial cut or scrape (mostly scrapes) then it's not worth using. 😥
My mother showed mercy and used Bactine on my sister and I.

Rag with the "blood" on it was used for sore throat. Finger with the stuff on it went to where the sore was. Usuns never let on that we had a sore throat.

You want a burn?? Try 7% iodine, the kind you use out in the barn on the livestock. Once it is done burning, and you are done screaming like a little girl, everything is great. 7% dries out whatever you put it on! 😁

It's not the same, though it was used the same way and from all accounts hurt the same. My grandmother told me to buck up and slathered Merthiolate on.

It was used on me and my siblings and I used it on my 4 sons as well. I had a bottle in the medicine cabinet up until my last move about 5 years ago. Mercury kills germs! 🤐
