What would keep this from being a NFA item?

I think NFA barrel length is 18 inches. So it just might be a NFA item. Barrel length might be determined by who does the measuring, and where they measure from. As in front or back of chamber.

Overall length is good but 17 inch barrel is the catch. Put a poly choke on it and good to go.

Mark C will be along sometime today

    UPDATE:

I received the below response from the seller:

Hello,Β it really is about 18 1/4” because it screws into the back part a long way. I measured to the site

That explanation was clear as mud.

The way ATF agents measure a barrel is to close the bolt, & stick a dowel (or cleaning rod) down the bore & put a small piece of tape on the dowel at the front end of the barrel. Remove the dowel, & measure the length up to the tape.

Cutting the barrel is an alteration that removes it from the C&R category.

Apparently he now understands, after 2 attempts, that you are expected to pay for the items that you win at auction.

I guess my question and link to ATF/NFA info spooked him as he has ended the auction. Maybe he will relist as a 18-1/4" barrel.

The barrel grew one inch and is now 18"

Maybe he got a hold of Ricci's fertilizer that he was using on the top break NA 22 mag.

    Back part, Hum.

You laugh. That thing is the size of a Scofield now.

Better get it out and wash it off or the Navy will want to use it for a deck gun

An inch too short will get the feds' attention. Unless it is a Mossberg Shockwave with 14 inch barrel. I never could understand how they get away with that but I am glad they do.

Same with a Henry mares leg. Must be a pistol.

The Baftards will kill your wife, son & dog for less than an inch too short. I wonder if a rifled shotgun barrel can be 16"?

Β "I wonder if a rifled shotgun barrel can be 16"?"

That would be a NO. It's still a shotgun barrel.

I bought an Iver Johnson Hercules 12ga single shot at a gun show a few years back. What initially caught my eye was with a solid rib on top, it almost looked like a 10ga. It has been gunsmith shortened to 18 1/8", brass bead installed up front, black cerakoted. The barrel looked borderline to me, so I requested a tape measure to confirm that it was 18". (It was.) Bought it for $100.

Later in the show, I was wandering around looking at other tables, I was standing next to a LEO. I had the shotgun in the crook of my arm, broke open. I noticed him looking at it about 4-5 times. I turned to him and said, "I know Sir, looked too short to me also. I requested a tape measure to confirm 18" prior to purchasing it." Asked him "Do you want to measure it?" He replied "Nope, sounds good to me. All good."

It's a live outside the safe, House Gun with a 6 shot bandolier on it. 00 Buck. Right by the bed. Very handy. I like it.

Same with a Henry mares leg. Must be a pistol.

The Mossberg Shockwave and various other knockoffs use the odd shaped grip to make the overall length over 25.5" therefore it falls into its own category called "pistol grip firearm", not "shotgun" or "pistol".

The various Mares Legs do not have buttstocks and have rifled barrels so yes, they are classified as handguns, pistol specifically.

Ken I am sure if you really work at it you could learn to run a pump shotgun. It's really not that much more complicated than a single shot and that way in case of a home invasion you could use just one gun instead of running all over your house grabbing a single shot, firing it, dropping it and running to the next one and then to the next one.

I've got a 20ga Mossberg 500 pump right beside it Ricci. Also have a nice Semi-Auto 12ga with 4+1 #4 Buck ready to go at the bedroom door. ☺

Your concern for my Safety, is touching though. πŸ€”

*Not to mention that lil' Iver Johnson is about perfect size/weight to beat someone with. Remember, it won't be just me. Buddy will be hanging on to an appendage. (Guaranteed.) πŸ€•

    ("Appendage," means Arm/Leg Ricci.) πŸ˜‰
