Colt SAA 1st Generation Half Cock Problem Question
I purchased a Colt SAA 1st generation 32-20 and the only problem is I cannot put it on half cock as if you wanted to open the gate and load the cylinder. If I pull back a bit more on the hammer and hold it that way , then the cylinder will turn. I took it apart and the hammer notches are fine, the trigger seems fine, I think , but the hand shows a lot of wear. Before I buy a new hand I would like to know if this could be the problem. And now I am thinking it could be the trigger itself ? Thanks for any advice

I have a Bisley model that would fall off the safety notch with very little pressure on the trigger. No triggers were available that I could find. Gunsmith microwelded the top of the trigger slightly longer and this helped.

a. dis-assemble and clean it
b. try pushing the trigger forward as you cock the hammer (possible weak trigger spring)
most likely the trigger/hammer interface

Thanks No luck with that I now notice that when on safety notch I can pull the trigger a bit hard and it snaps the hammer forward to fire position. In looking at the trigger itself I think it may be worn. Can you say if a trigger from a second or third generation will fit my first generation ? I really appreciate any help. Have to hit the sack soon, will check back Thank you

Ist and 2nd Gen interchange, I can't tell you about the 3rd other than the parts I needed didn't work in my 2nd Gen.

I took the trigger out of my 3rd generation just to try in the 1st generation and it fit perfectly and fixed the problem so I ordered a trigger from Numrich Thanks for the reply
