Prayer request, sad news
I don’t post a lot here but have been a member for a long time. My wife Kim is very ill with Pancreatitis and all the other things that accompany the condition. This came on very suddenly and for no apparent reason. Please pray for her.
Sadly my wife of 44 years has passed away peacefully about 35 minutes after being removed from life support. She was a healthy vibrant woman just 18 days ago. She loved kids and dogs and never harmed a thing in her life.
Thank you for the prayers and kind thoughts. they made her (and my) suffering a little easier I am sure.

"My wife of 44 years has taken a turn for the worse. Hard decisions will have to be made. I may need prayers to guide me through these difficult times."
I hear you, brother. God hears you too. Paul wrote many years ago about how we're supposed to deal with these impossible things in his letter to the Philippians:
"The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Most people begin the quote with an admonition to not be anxious. How the hell are we supposed to do that? Back up a verse. "The Lord is near." Think about that... the Lord of the Universe is near. He's right here, leaning in close, watching the expression on your face and listening intently. He loves you more than words can express and he wants to give you peace. He has a plan "for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." That's a powerful starting point. That's his opening bid.
So now what do we do? We know God is near, how are we supposed to not be anxious? Our minds are buzzing with what-ifs as we stagger around like blind men, scared to death for our spouse. I know I'm completely incapable of "not being anxious" about my beloved bride. So I skip to the next part... "in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God". God already knows what's going on, he knows my fear, he knows the situation. What he desires is one-on-one time with us. Face to face. He wants to hear our voice. He loves that. He wants us to tell him our fears, to pour it all out. List the things you want to happen, tell him WHY it should happen. Be a little demanding and pushy. God's a big boy, he can take it. He might remind you of times in the past when he's come through... don't forget to thank him deeply for those. Pour out your heart. TALK to him. Petition him. List your grievances. Tell him why your heart is breaking. Give him an hour and pour it all out. It will be the highlight of God's day, that hour. And you know what will happen? You'll realize your heart is beating a little slower. Your fists aren't clenched anymore. You stopped sweating. Somehow it's easier to breathe. This isn't your peace you're feeling... this is the Peace of God. It passes all understanding. It makes no sense. But your heart and your mind are calmer, protected. While you were pouring it all out, God was closing the windows and hanging up the phones and building a shelter around your heart and mind. This is what he has to offer. A quiet place with him.
Remain close to him. Listen for his voice and know that he's near. Ask him if he can hear you? Talk to him. Listen for his still, small voice. He has a plan to do you good, and not harm, all the days of your life.
Let him.

A conference was held today (video) among me, my children and the doctors, to discuss removing life support. This was agreed upon by all present. Some of the kids would like to be with her and some would like to remember her as she was. I get that. So at an agreed upon time this will be done.
After being with her every day for the last 16, from 8 to 6:30, and watching her condition to deteriorate, This is for the better for her. I love her very much and cannot watch the suffering any more.
Thanks to all.

We had to make that decision for my Father and 19 years later for my Mother. It's never an easy thing to do, but rest assured, it is almost always the best one to make. When the quality of life has deteriorated to the point that there is no longer any hope for a cure, keeping someone alive by artificial means is just being selfish. God bless you and your family for making a courageous decision. My sincere condolences are extended.
