Greasy Memories
In 1963 I was nine years old and lived with my Grandparents in a very nice house in a very nice semi rural neighborhood in Wilmington, N.C. Although an accomplished expert with my Daisy BB rifle, many dragon flies had died while in hover mode, I'm not sure I had ever fired a real firearm. My Grandfather owned a 16 ga. SxS shotgun but I don't remember having shot it up to that time. One day while talking to my Dad who was a Marine Gunny stationed at Pendleton, he said it was time I got my own .22 rifle. Since he was on the other side of the country, it fell to my uncle to take me shopping. Ok this is getting way to complicated. I got a new Marlin 39A and a cleaning kit that must have been Outers cause it had one of the tiny silver tubes of black Gunslick grease. I just found an old tube in some junk and it brought back some pleasant memories. Big deal, right??

Not at all. I have a Golden 39A in the safe my dad bought for us when we were kids. I recall the saving he had to do to afford it. My most cherished rifle.

I just finished cleaning a pistol and as soon as I popped open that bottle of Hoppes I flashed back to the first time my dad showed me how to clean a firearm and the good memories surrounding that. Pleasant memories are always a big deal!

First suppressor I shot was on a Marlin 39. As a 8 yr old I was impressed.

This just triggered a memory for me. I remember sitting in the living room helping my mom re-blue barrels on the guns we had in the house.
She is one of the main reasons I'm a DIY type.

It's nice to have great memories like that.

Dragonfly's sound like great targets! Never thought to use them back in those days with my bb gun. I bet when and if I ever get to Heaven, there will be a football stadium full of frogs seeking revenge! 😧

I still have one of those tubes of graphite grease from the early 60s. It still has at least half of the contents in it. I got it right after I got my first gun, a Marlin Golden 39A "Mountie" in 1961 . Still have the gun, too.
