Just Checking In for a minute...
Hey guys it's about 1 in the morning and I've got a few minutes for an update on June before she will be waking up for more pain meds in a little while. I hope everyone here has been doing well.
Most everything remains about the same as it has been the past few months with a couple of things that have improved. The chemo pill, Tagrisso, has been pretty hard on June plus she has some kind of lung infection besides the cancer that she's been taking antibiotics for this past week that's made her feel even worse. They thought it was pneumonia but the CT scan results said it wasn't pneumonia. There was some good news from the CT scan though. It showed that the tumor in the lung has shrunk a few millimeters and that lifted our sprits some. This infection has made breathing more difficult and for the first time this past week her oxygen level fell below 88 so she's now on oxygen.
They've came a long way with the oxygen these days. I was expecting to have to deal with oxygen tanks but the company that came in to provide the oxygen brought in a small machine that makes it own plus they provided her with a little battery powered unit that you carry with you on a shoulder strap when you go out. They did give her one little oxygen tank as an emergency back up that they said would last a couple or three hours should the units fail.
She also has another little machine called a Nebulizer that puts out a mist of medication that I hook up every 6 hours for her to breath into that has given her quite a bit of relief and has helped with her cough and opened up her air passages some.
Pain wise she still has quite a bit of pain from the spine surgery and the shoulder replacement surgery but it's not nearly as bad as it was a couple of months ago which has been an answered prayer. We're both getting a little sleep now. I'm still not comfortable enough to leave her alone long enough for me to go to bed so I still sit and sleep in my recliner beside her hospital bed that I set up in the living room.
June recovered completely from the fall she had a few weeks ago that landed her back in the hospital for 5 days. No broken bones just bruises. Plus while she was there they fixed her swallowing problem she was having that was caused by the radiation treatments on her neck. They were able to do a procedure that expanded her throat without tearing anything. They were very afraid that while expanding it that the tissue that had been damaged by the radiation might tear completely apart which would be another can of worms that she definitely didn't need to deal with in her condition. So that was another prayer answered that has made life much better for her since she can eat regular food now when she's not feeling nauseated for all the medication she's taking.
We've got a long road ahead of us it looks like but with the prayers we've been receiving from you all and from our family and other friends I think it has helped a whole lot. We appreciate all the prayers that you good people here on the forum have been sending out for us. We don't really have the words to thank you enough but God bless you all we do appreciate all of your help.
Walmart has been a big help these past couple of months. Never thought I'd say that. Anyway since they started home delivery I don't have to leave June alone to go grocery shopping. I just order up what we need on my computer or on my smart phone and reserve a time slot and they bring it to the house. The Walmart app has real time tracking on the delivery person's vehicle and I can see when they pull into the driveway on my computer or phone. I just click the garage door opener and they bring the groceries in and set them on the floor at the door into our house. Only problem I've had during the 6 times they've delivered is some donuts that were out of date and one missing half gallon of ice cream. I clicked on their website and they immediately refunded the money for the items with no questions.
You all take care out there and I'll be checking back in from time to time.

Thanks for checking in.
If it is the right kind, and you have 120v or the old cigarette lighter plug in your car, you can keep the battery charged up on that oxygen machine when you go somewhere.
Still sending best wishes your way.

Jim, it wouldn't help if I had someone to come in and help but thanks for mentioning it.
There's no where I could go or anything that I could do that would relieve me from thinking about her illness. I'd rather be here with her sick than to be any place else in the world. We probably don't have much more time together and I want to spend it all with June as long as I can. We are soul mates. We've not been apart but 5 days in over 50 years.
