Complaints about Ammo Prices
I thought I'd get some .348 Winchester cartridges at the last gun show. One of the dealers even had some--$70 a box for Remingtons: $90 for a box of Silvertips! I passed (almost passed out!). I have dies and, given the current situation, am lucky enough to have primers and powder, but no brass or bullets. I checked and Starline has brass but in 500 lots. If I was 25 years old and all my friends had 71 Winchesters, I might jump on that. But I'm 83 and all my friends are dead! Besides, I can't find any bullets, anyway.

Most of us are finding the very same thing all around the U.S. There is literally nothing any of us can do about it though.
Search harder with as many suppliers that you can find on the internet then spend some time driving from from shop to shop to see if they have anything stashed in the back room. Check with the shooters at the local ranges, plead your case to see if they will share just a few pieces for you to practice with. Ask around to see if anyone wants to share 500 pieces...
Other than that, just keep looking and asking. .348 is going to be at the bottom of most folks list though. There is a Wanted Forum here at GB...
Best.

I envy you guys who are set up for reloading...........I missed that boat.

Reloading isnt much better. No powder, No primers, bullets are scarce. I got the last two boxes of .38 cal today for $21 bucks for 100 bullets. That was only up about six bucks from the last box I bought.

I purchased 3 boxes of Premium Federal 300Win Mag off a seller. He sent me an extra box in todays delivery.

I'm kind of partial to the GB ad for three tarnished rounds, one of which was fired, for sale for $10 + shipping!! Such a deal!!

So what up with gun broker bullet prices? IC 22lr going for 130+$ for 500 can I go on and sell my 22lr at huge profit if I only pay $40 for 500. I'm new hear and I know bullet are hard to find but is it that simple?

Other than CCI mini-mag HP I've never paid more than $20 for a brick of .22s. Most of it less than $15. And I'm not talking 20 years ago.

Yes it is that simple. What you are seeing is the effects of panic buying on the law of supply and demand. Some people buy out all reasonably priced ammo at reputable dealers and sell it at auction for what ever it will bring. Since they are a big part of the reason for the shortage by buying up all reasonably priced ammo I refuse to play their game. After the last panic buying was over I waited and bought all I'll ever need at bargain prices when the demand died and these sellers were desperate to unload what they had. Well I did neglect to buy enough 17hmr but I can wait for better prices. Bob

No person selling ammunition (in auctions or anywhere else) is responsible for the shortages or price increase. The POLITICAL threats (particularly talk about banning or heavily taxing ammunition) is what is driving prices sky high and making it impossible for retailers to keep stock on the shelf. You add to that the few million new firearm owners (added just over the last year) and their demand added to the existing demand and you have pressure pushing prices up. Additionally, manufacturers -- facing possible new laws that will kill their businesses -- are not going to be adding new manufacturing capabilities; so you have existing supply, under existing manufacturing capabilities, being outstripped by the demand. THAT is what is causing prices to rise.

Loosely translated that equates to panic buying having an effect on the concept of supply and demand. You simply pointed out the cause of the panic that is driving the extra sales of firearms and ammo. So I think our opinions are quite similar.
As for the resellers of ammo at exorbitant prices they only sell for what the public is willing to pay. I spent a dozen or so years selling ammunition at retail prices watching resellers come in day after day depleting the stocks before the average guy could get any. If the average guy wanted to shoot his only recourse was to pay the greatly inflated prices charged by the resellers. That is capitalism but as I said above I don't have to play their game because I am comfortably flush with ammo, except for that pesky 17HMR. Bob

I agree with both of your points. However, if the auction starts at $0, and the buyers make the price, it's hard to point the finger at the sellers... Check out this auction.

Folks are paying stupid prices....

They predict it's Going to be that way all year. If inflation hits the market it will just be worst.if Biden starts gun control and suspends internet sales of ammo then the sky is the limit,if you can even find it.

And sales tax!
Ammo prices are beyond crazy. It is like the old Chris Rock routine about cutting down on shootings in the hood by making the ammo cost $5000 per round.
Gang banger: "Dang, I'd really like to shoot that guy over there but I would have to sell my car to afford it. I want him dead but not THAT bad!"

They don't have to take our guns. Make ammo hard to get. Prices way out of hand. this has been happening for the last two years.
Easy to blame the Pandemic.
Powers to be behind this? Democrats? manufacturers? dealers?
We need to wake up. We are losing more and more rights each day.
If you think dealers are not holding it back to drive up prices, you never owned a business.

All the dealers I know are screaming just as loud about not being able to get ammo as everyone else. 8 million+ new shooters bought guns last year. For arguments sake let's say that everyone of them bought a 9mm and a box of ammo (50 rounds) to go with their new gun. That comes out to 400,000,000 rounds of ammo that manufacturers have to produce just to feed the newbs that just bought a gun. Keep in mind, that is on top of what they're already producing to feed the millions of us that already own guns.
Now factor in the current political climate where chances are the 'powers that be' are going to make it very difficult for those manufacturers to make and market their product due to new restrictions, taxes on components, limiting market access, etc. and ask yourself how many manufacturers are going to be willing to shell out millions of dollars to increase their production capacity. It's a perfect storm of circumstances and stupid voters that have driven up the cost of ammo, not a conspiracy amongst every FFL holder in the nation.
