That's a nice rainbow, around here we catch a lot of 12 inchers with the occasional 20 incher.

I haven't fished for rain bow trout since I left Missouri. Had a lot of great times at Roaring River state park fishing for them when I was a teen

I've fished Roaring River a few times over the years, anymore it's shoulder to shoulder and that takes all the fun out of it.

I could clear my spot pretty good once they seen how I handled a fly rod

    Stocked or native?

They have been stocking this part of the river since 1974. But they do not stock this big!

Nice fish, Nutt! Fillet it out, season a bit and broil 'till just flaky. Yummy!

    What'd you catch it on?

Big nice fish.........I used to lake fish for rainbows in Colorado on youth group trips when I was a kid and never caught one that big.

What a beauty. Look at that rounded tail, it’s got some years on it.

The rainbows there look a bit different than the ones we catch in the Nushagak river up here.

Not fished for Trout in a long time, about 2007 on Long Pine creek, Long Pine Nebraska.

    nutfinn,

'I do know it is not that big, but she is the biggest one that I have gotten so far.'

That's a terrific rainbow! Good job!

I used to fish the Ontonagon River in the UP every spring and early summer for trout. It was a blast! Not very big but super tasty from the ice cold water. We used to grill them.

    Best.

That’s a good size, right there.

In my experience, once they get much bigger, the flesh is kind of mushy and tasteless.

Trout caught in COLD water make the best meal cooked just about anyway you like. The big ones including salmon IMO caught during warm summer months are best smoked.

    Good catch there nutfinn!

Fished Montauk, and Bennett Spring regularly in MO, and Roaring River less often, way down in the SW corner of the state. Out here we mostly get browns, and most of those are small. Turns out 8" browns are the tastiest in my book. Large trout taste like liver, which I can live without.

I spent many a day at Bennett Springs when we first moved here, so much so that I was sick and tired of trout.

They stocked a few local ponds with rainbows last week. I tried a few times, but can't get them to eat anything.

Try Zeke's floating cheese bait. Sinker 24" up the line.

Like bears, the fish taste like what they've been eating. Springtime black bear is lean and tastes like blueberries... delicious. Brown bear always tastes like you're eating garbage.

Big rainbows in wild COLD rivers still taste good, but you need a big skillet.
