What did you expect? They were too late to get rooms at the Willard. The soldiers from the DCNG are already committed for traffic duty. These soldiers are probably from Maryland & NJ.

They could call in workers & open the House cafeteria for them, but it's more likely they are feeding them MRE's.

Nice they even gave/allowed them a Therma-Rest to lay on as well. (Sure you noticed that Sam06, as did I.) I would be willing to bet that they have no ammunition amongst them, based on my past experience. They are relying upon the Intimidation factor alone. Which is Really Stupid.

If they are anything close to the NG that showed up on our base, back in the day - they were an embarrassment to our Professionalism, and gave us a bad name by being rowdy (in Uniform) at local Bars. (We would Never go to a local Bar, in Uniform.) Uniforms, Presentation, Haircuts, Weight, Fitness, etc. etc. Overall, an embarrassment.

Granted the NG of today has more Combat Veterans than any NG Force ever, and very well be more Professional than what I encountered. (All due to our "Endless" Wars that have taken place since 2001.)

If they were Combat experienced MP's, with Crowd control experience, then maybe. These are not. I wonder what the MOS's are?

Well at least if the house gets overrun again, they make a very good tripping hazard.

Sam, are you saying you didn't have the guys over for slumber parties when you were a Ranger???

Hillbille - The NBC guys/girls are used to operating in gasmasks. I'm willing to bet there will be copious amounts of CS deployed next week, on the 20th.

Still should be nothing but NG MP's IMHO. They are the ones trained to deal with these situations.

What ever the optics of that particular photo and that particular place I admire and respect anyone doing their duty as they defend our nation. I have seen similar pictures of troops during WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the wars in Iraq and untold other "conflicts" where our beloved American Service men are serving.

Should they all be out shooting and ordering air strikes??

Many MILLIONS of those that served you and me died doing it.

    Many MILLIONS were wounded.

All served, HONORABLY as ORDERED by their commanding Officers.

Shame on anyone that disparages our troops, yesterday or in the future, no matter the optics of the moment.

I wasn’t disparaging US service men and women. However, I reserve the right to if they come knocking on MY door.

For those who haven't worn the uniform, let alone pulled guard duty, a third of your duty detail will be out walking their post while the rest are in their racks catching ZZZZZs, watching TV or reading a book.
