Man to lose USD 240 million worth bitcoins if he gets password wrong
Stefan Thomas, a San Francisco programmer who has USD 240 million in bitcoins in his name. Life is set right? Nope. There's a teeny tiny problem.
Thomas has forgotten the password to the hard drive on which these bitcoins have been stored. He has already entered wrong password eight times. Two more wrong guesses and he can kiss his fortune goodbye.

Yep - $240 million on Bitcoin?
Just Stoopid.
That much on Bitcoin and you "forget" your Password?
Priceless. (Well, not really Priceless - $240 Million worth of Stoopid.)

Someone gave him the coins years ago.

At least 8 characters, of a combination of letters and numbers required, with at least one uppercase and one lowercase letter and a mininum of one symbol.
The password is Loser$2020.

Bitcoin is a volitile market in which, if you pay close enough to trends and act quickly you can make huge money.

Reminds me of the 70's pyramid scam called "Dare to be Great". I know several guys that lost their butts in that deal.

That was not a scam. Rocks make great pets. Just don't take them swimming cause they really suck at that.

Is there not a password reset? I forget my passwords most often when they REQUIRE a special charter like !@#$%^&*().

No bpost - that is what he had to say after his $240 million is gone.
!@#$%^&*().

Ten chances to enter a password before your $230 million account is locked? I forgot the password to an old bank account, which was worth a bit less than $230 million 😉, and I was locked out after three tries!

I call BS
how do they not have a conformation system set up even as simple as SS number, moms last name , your dogs color all the normal security questions or a hot line to confirm you are who you are
and I will never have to worry about any large sum of money or any money for that part .. that much money I would have least written down the pass word(s) put in a safety deposit box or tattooed on my GF butt LOL

Well this is an Iron Key thumb drive. Second, Bitcoin itself is based on the on blockchain technology. Fundamental to blockchain is no-central authority.
Now to prevent issues like this there are also blockchain based “banks” that will store your bitcoin for you to prevent this sort of thing from happening- but they aren’t exactly FDIC insured.
I think my opinion of bitcoin is turning more favorable- you can’t beat the anonymity of it, but I still have more to learn.
Lets say you wanted to leave a million or more to your grandkids- you could do so with bitcoin and ensure they wouldn’t be taxed on it after the fact.

I'm a country boy, dumber than a box of rocks, but for $240 million, I would HIRE someone to remember it!
He should try out for the San Francisco 49rs. They have been losing their butt for some time now.

I know nothing about them only the mention on the internet on occasion
then it does sound like he may be up the old creek
I would wager some south African prince who is always trying to give away money could help LOL

I use the same security scheme on my data storage. Ten failed tries and it wipes itself. Same with my phones or anything else "sensitive" that the public might touch somehow.
Storage is cheap. Data is not. So make a master list and store it someplace physical like a safety deposit box. You grant increasing access to your data on the inverse of its value. Email password? Yeah.... it's disposable. Remember never to discuss anything in email. Bank password? Not disposable. Investment house passwords? Nobody touches them. Master list? It lives one place, anonymously, in writing, on paper.

Way back I bought some Bitcoin and sold it after a quick profit, Coulda shoulda woulda LOL.
I still have a sliver but it is in Coinbase and Bianace accounts which while more prone to hacking then a Bitcoin wallet its also easier to get into if you forget the password.
Back when no one knew what it was I used to like to ask the servers in Restaurants if they accepted Bitcoin most just gave me a blank stare.

Guys, I hate to tell you, but Bitcoin is the future of investing. I was skeptical as well, but I have made some great gains with it so far.

If I buy 500 oz's of Gold I want the physical Gold itself in my possession, not on a piece of paper from New York, Boston or LA brokerage firm saying I own 500 oz's of Gold. Like someone stated above, I'm too just a dumb country boy but I'm not that dumb, what that guy was plain out stupid !!. I feel no pain for him.....at all.

Boo-hoo.............since the number of bitcoin is limited..........does that mean that unclaimed coin will be available?

...Get the dictionary and look up "dumb-azz", his picture is beside it...😮

Im dumb enough to forget a password but I’m NOT dumb enough to tell the press...

Junkballer- with these systems, you don't even get a piece of paper that says you own X. You get a string of 1s and zeros.
