When the local counties went to 911 addressing, I had a few hardnosed holdouts who didn't want to convert. After numerous reminders that there would be a time limit on handling incorrectly addressed mail, one customer came into my office ranting about how he'd had the same route and box number for 40 years and would continue to use that address. He asked if I was going to return his "misaddressed" mail and I reminded him that mail is sorted on an "OCR" (optical character reader) that was programed to use specific address parameters which no longer included route and box number sequences. Therefore, any mail so addressed would be delayed or RTS. When I retired over a decade later, some of those folks would still occasionally get mail with decades old addresses but it still got delivered if it reached my office.

we have two people working at our Post office one delivering one running the office there also tied into the next Po over just about two or three miles away

any way I shipped out about a dozen packages the counter fellow who was moving on to another PO was just filling in did not scan three of them , I had to get the post master five days later to exception the packages in just in case they do get lost .

I pointed out ya I know there running way behind ( 12 days now and still not delivered priority ) but if they did not get received in the PO would would tell me to pound sand when i file for a lost package . as " we never had it never showed received in " so why would we pay for it

he said I never thought about that side of it

    duuuhhh
