I tell people the most difficult job in the world is holding a flashlight for someone else, especially your dad.

What about getting your wife to hole the flashlight for you.
You will eventually get blinded right when you need the light shining on what you are working on and you better remind her in a nice careful way where to point the light or you know what, especially if you are a married man.
I now have several lights that I no longer have to have ANYONE hold them for me while I'm working. Problem solved.

my 25 yo daughter and me just went thru that yesterday. we were trying to replace the kitchen ceiling light so we had no light. she was trying to hold a small flashlight but was not always looking where i was looking so you all know how that went. i called her and read her the post and telling her she was not alone in drawing her fathers ire.

before the magnet and clamp on flashlights which I seem to have gotten many as presents 😁 ( well even now ) if I was / or currently working on anything that needed a flashlight assistant my wife and two sons would run and hide... I am sure they drew straws or some other form of elimination to see who would have to help me ..
and they seem to find enjoyment 😐️ telling others about there experience's
