Need some advice
I want a 22lr semi-auto rifle but I don't want a 10/22.
In your opinion what is the best. When I say best I mean accurate, reliable and sturdy.

I forgot to say I would like one for under 300 bucks and I like a tube fed gun.
Right now I am leaning toward a Winchester M77.

You eliminated the best for the money!

Up the money some and get a Remington 552 Speedmaster.

You can find a nice Browning Grade I 22 semi for about twice 300.
Early Remington 241 (IIRC made under Browning license) are in the same ball park

Nylon 66s are neat but just a tad on the light/whippy side.
This should fit your bill for a few bucks more

Tube fed semi auto for my choice is a Marlin 60.

If you want a semi-auto the Remingtons are hard to beat. I currently have a 552 and a 550-1. Both will run shorts as well. The 550-1 will also run CB's and that is a lot of fun for anyone. Accuracy is good for both rifles.
I wish I could remember what model a rifle was that I had many years ago. IIRC it was a Mossberg, it may have been a Marlin but I'm fairly sure it was a Mossberg. It had a large size(for a 22) stock, long barrel, finger groves on the grip and a brass bead on the front sight. I can't remember if it loaded through the butt stock or not. It was the most accurate semi-auto .22 rifle I have ever shot. It had a long sight radius. A great range gun and back yard plinker but i found myself not carrying it hunting because it was larger and weighed more than my other rifles, I really wish I had kept it.

550-1 has an inertia system in it. The earlier models do not have a scope mounting groove and the later ones do. Mine has a groove but I haven't put a scope on it. The 552 had a scope on it when I bought it so it's my scoped rifle and the 550-1 I left with open sights as it runs CB's and is great for teaching kids with.

Model 63 Winch. are as accurate and dependable as they come if you are lucky enough to find one. Probably not for that price anyhow.

I would like to have a 63 but they get into your pocket.

They get into your pocket and maybe it is just me but they seem heavy.
May very well be the best 22 semi-auto ever made.

Ive got one, and dont shoot it very often anymore, its harder to clean and wont shoot for a year or so without touching it like the 10/22. LOL

What in the devil would possess a man to say such a thing?

I heard you, but the 10/22 International is a good looking rifle.

It's still a 10/22.
He said he didn't want a 10/22.

Another vote for the Marlin 60.

have my grampa's will still split holes at 50 yards if you do your part, which I can't anymore, but I can keep golfballs dancing, and I think it holds 16??? if memory serves......and the feed through the side of the stock is one of the handiest for fat fingers

Looks cool...but my international shoots like crap!!! (just like most out of the box 10/22's) ...JMO...

I have a Marlin 60, and 2 model 70's, (magazine fed).
Love them.

Well I must have a good one cause my target 10/22 will shoot 5 rounds well under an inch at 100 yards with Ely.

Another Model 60 vote here. There was a reason they made millions of em. For a cheap tube fed semi they are hard to beat.

Well, everyone else is afraid to say it so I'll throw it out there...

I am going to start looking at the 552 remingtons.
I don't want a 10/22 because I don't like them. I don't like the magazines, the triggers are garbage unless you change them out and they are not all that accurate unless you have a target model. I had a stainless international and sold it because I never shot it. I have another one I built with a heavy barrel and a trigger kit but never shoot it.
If I was going to get a 10/22 I would get the backpacker model that is a takedown with the magpul stock.
