rats in a barrel

Whenever I empty a feed barrel I try to leave a half-handful of corn in the bottom then leave the lid askew.

Next morning, I usually have a live mouse or two for the cats. Best trap I have ever used.

Oh Em Gee, I need to try that for those pesky voles. Give them an easy access into it by a plank against the side!! Thanks for the ingenious idea. Woot, woot!!

I've live trapped mice using a 5 gallon plastic bucket with a round hole in the lid about 1 1/4 inch diameter, place a small board for a ladder, just very few pieces of bait by the ladder and on top and then bait in the bucket. They will eventually fall inside through the hole and live trapped. Other's will hear the noise and smell the bait and come investigate.

Larger barrel for the big rats used the same way.

Have to protect the live traps from Racoons and other larger animals.

What is nice is they are live trapped and you can dispose of them as you see fit and do not have to check the traps often. No poison or stick from using regular traps.

BUT if not AWARE OF SUCH you need to review HANTA VIRUS.

One nice thing about getting the Hanta is you won't suffer for very long. You are usually dead before they figure out what you had.

Smear peanut butter around an empty paper towel tube and slip it over a 1/4" or so rod of some kind. Lay that across the barrel near the ramp just close enough they can allllllllllmost reach it.

I don't know if PB would work for voles, but it's the cats meow for rats and mice.
